our story started in the depths of the universe, where fairytales were born from starstuff and dark matter -- spirits of light and darkness, humans and monsters, fantastical creatures and godlike entities. after the nightmare king destroyed the galaxial golden age, the haven many of them sought was the planet earth. in a postmodern 2023 world, after centuries of dormancy, the beings of folklore and myth have arisen to take two sides, fighting for stark control over the good and bad in the world while the situation spirals ever more out of hand. mortality and sentience are becoming stagnant, redundant, ever more indistinguishable from belief and imagination; it is up to the immortals to inject their individual concepts back into the world, tap into the hearts of children and adults and each other alike, and finally merge the worlds of mortal and magic into one cohesive whole.

Things had been especially hectic and busy lately, which for Toothiana was saying quite a lot. The Tooth Fairy had no trouble keeping busy on a regular basis what with baby teeth falling out every day by the hundreds, even thousands. But Pitch and his new allies had also been getting more and more active which meant the Guardians had to be extra alert and on top of all of those regular responsibilities there had been the added work involved with the Masquerade that Manny had decided to host.

Admittedly Tooth had not been too involved in setting it up. She knew a great deal of effort had gone into placing and bolstering the enchantments that kept the Palace secure against violence- and thank goodness for that- but spells had never been her area of expertise. That was more suited to Ombric and his spell books or North and Katherine who had studied under him. And Manny had sent his moonbeams so Toothiana really had only needed to make sure all the arrangements were made for teeth to be collected that night and other minor preparations. But the night itself and after...that was when things had gotten far more complicated. The ball had started out perfectly fine and Toothiana had actually quite enjoyed the rare night off. But then the debacle of the speeches had started. Manny had started to explain the Golden Age only for Pitch to reveal that he had been present the whole time and said his own piece. Fortunately Bunny had been level headed enough despite the surprise to avoid the gathering erupting into complete chaos of panic and confusion. But even his words likely had led to more questions and uncertainty in the minds of some Guardians.

And that was why Toothiana now found herself flying over Siberia, violet eyes scanning the land below. If anyone had questions about the Golden Age, those were better left to Bunny and Sandy but Tooth could certainly reassure them about some of the other matters that Bunny had touched on. So she wanted to check in with other Guardians and see how they were. And since most of them had been in St. Petersburg for the Masquerade she figured staying around Russia would be the best way to make herself available. But there was one place in particular she also wanted to stop in.

Up ahead a massive hedge began to appear on the horizon. The first protective barrier of Santoff Claussen. Tooth did not really expect any of the village's residents to have questions for her. Ombric and Katherine knew the stories of the past well and had centuries of experience with being a Guardian. They knew the complexities of Pitch's past and they knew that they had signed on for a perpetual effort, even if it had not quite felt like a war in those days. Still, she wanted to see that they were doing alright after what had happened and given the village's history as a Guardian stronghold and its relative proximity to where everyone had been Tooth suspected that some other Guardians might be seeking the place out in the hopes of finding answers. As she sped forward the hedge came into a clearer view, impossibly high brambles with thorns like swords made for quite the intimidating entrance. However, any who came with peaceful and unselfish intentions would have no trouble making their way through. And, in Toothiana's case, a pair of wings did make things especially easy to enter. She was just about to pass over the great barrier and head for the village within when a sound from somewhere below caught her attention. Toothiana came to a stop almost immediately, hovering in place as she turned to scan the ground searching the foliage and such for the source of the sound.

@QUEEN TOOTHIANA

Sheesh, talk about overcompensating…

The fae regarded the gigantic and dangerous looking hedge before him with raised eyebrows, and his lips smoothed into a thin, unamused line. This was...well, it was something, he’d grant it that. It was like someone decided that moats were for peasants and giant fucking thorns were the new in, and just went crazy planting that shit everywhere. Sheesh, he didn’t see what was so wrong with moats...at least moats couldn’t be set on FIRE, not unlike these brambles. Especially so if it was particularly dry.

Raleigh reached a hand forward to poke at the tip of one of the brambles, and grimaced as it managed to prick him enough to draw a little dot of blood from his finger. Pft. Figures that they’d be sadistically sharp, too. He sighed as he shook out his hand, and took a step back from the ominously gigantic wall of, “fuck you.” The fae wondered, he really wondered, how this was a supposed be all end all line of defense against anyone. If he bothered to try, he was sure he could fly riiiiight over the top, as could anyone who wanted to peek into the supposed city that was nestled in its depths. And hell, they might not even have to do that if they were intent on causing damage; if the town really WAS next to all this mess, an out of control fire could spell game over for them all.
Unless they had some kinda magical sprinkler system built in, which would be both hilarious and stupid.

But eh, he wasn’t up to finding that sorta shit out today. Not only would he have to find something to start a fire with, but he was pretty sure that Boss Man wouldn’t appreciate random attacks like that. Might make it harder for him to follow through on whatever scheme he might have going, or whatever. Although...it did give him an idea for something he could do elsewhere. All he had to do was find a place with high winds and dry conditions, and he could start an inferno that would leave humans scrambling for safety for miles. And hey! If a Guardian showed up to help with the firefighting efforts, even better! Whatever it happened to be could be tagged and bagged, and brought kicking and screaming back to the Boss Man.
And even if it managed to escape, at least there’d be plenty of fear from the humans and animals in the area to go around.

The fae grinned as he fetched his phone from his pocket, preparing to Google up some shit about current burning restrictions, but his stomach growling threw that plan off for the time being. He blinked, only just now realising how hungry he was. Shit, how long had he been out here? ...far too long, since he’d just spent the time finding this place, and then staring at it. He shot a poisonous glare at the damnable hedge at the thought, grumbled under his breath, and slowly turned his attention back to his phone. Ehhh, he’d have to leave the plan to set some state on fire for tomorrow, or something. Cuz right now, he should probably be getting back home, and eating a little something. He hadn’t had the migraine yet, which meant that it was well on its way.
He lowered his sunglasses over his eyes at that (mostly in a vain attempt to buy himself a little more time), and sighed as he brought up his Dominos app on his phone. Fuck it, he’d order a pizza, pick it up when he got back to Michigan, and collapse at home in a pile of tomato paste and regrets. There were worse fates that could await him.

...worse fates such as there being no SIGNAL out here.

“Awh, fuck!” He shook his phone after spitting out that vicious curse, partially out of frustration, and also with the vain hope that tilting it at some weird angle would let him catch some service. His hopes were left to die as the signal remained dead, and his shoulders slumped as he kicked at the ground beneath his feet. Well...he could try again when he got closer to the fairy path he’d taken to get here...which would hopefully leave him with enough time to pick the pizza up, and get home without incident. If he didn’t have the time…
Mmph. He didn’t wanna consider it. He really wanted that pizza now.
He pocketed his phone with a sigh, and started to sullenly trudge off. As he moved, he happened to glance up into the sky, only to freeze in place when he spotted what was up there. What. Oh jeez, what was SHE doing there? He frowned as he lifted a hand to his sunglasses, and lowered them enough so that he could stare up at the Guardian over the brim of the lenses. Yep. He wasn’t just seeing things. That sure was one of the Big Four up there. Fan-fuckin-tastic.
The fae snorted as he lifted his sunglasses back up over his eyes, and after flicking a half-hearted wave up to the damned wall fly, he kept on walking. Here’s hopin’ she just carried on her way and left him alone, but...when it rained it poured, yeah? Things were probably only starting to get annoying.

As she scanned the forest floor in search of the sound Toothiana's gaze soon landed on a young man. It was rare that hikers or other travelers made their way this far into the wilderness, Santoff Claussen was by design quite remote. Still Toothiana supposed it was not unheard of for such a thing to happen, a rather ambitious camper or outdoorsy type. But then the man waved at her, which meant he could not be an ordinary mortal, at the very least he had to be a believer which was rare among adults. So either a believer or a magical being who had wandered his way to the first of the major defenses of Santoff Claussen. Toothiana frowned a little in mild concern. If he had been seeking the village it appeared that his intentions were not deemed worthy of being granted access. Of course it could be coincidence- not every magical being knew the location of the village or he might just not have any business there.

Well, there was only one way to find out. Given recent events the Guardians could hardly be too careful, if he meant no harm then Toothiana would simply have made a new, rather adventurous acquaintance, and if he was up to something it was best that he understand the Guardian village was not a place easily trifled with. So she drifted down toward him, coming to hover at a comfortable distance. And now that she was up close she was struck with the sense of familiarity she knew that this individual had entrusted his baby teeth to her many years ago. The name came to her almost instantly.

"Hello, Raleigh," she greeted with a friendly enough smile. Strange as his presence here was she did not necessarily know that he had come here with any ill intent. Toothiana remembered everyone she had collected teeth from to some degree. Those who needed more frequent reminders of their childhood or had something about them that stuck out were usually clearer in her memory but connecting names and faces was at least one thing she could count on. And in this case there had been something rather unique about the teeth she collected. The aura of magic that clung to them. A changeling. She had checked the memories within the teeth when they were brought to her by the mini-fairies, she had not been out in the field in those days. But the teeth had been full of memories that seemed like that of a mostly normal childhood. Loving parents who protected him from being mistreated by those who saw the signs of something different about him. Changeling's were always a complicated situation at best and she could not help some worries for the human child Raleigh had replaced but she simply had no way of accessing the fae realms. "What brings you here?" She asked, hovering in the air at a comfortable distance for conversation.

@QUEEN TOOTHIANA

And theeeereee it was.
Raleigh was thankful that he’d donned the sunglasses; not only were they fucking stylish, but they helped to hide the fact that his eyes rolled the second he heard the Tooth Fairy making her descent. Greeeeat. She’d better make this meeting worth it; he was sacrificing a pizza over this shit! Hell, he was sacrificing much more than just THAT, given that he’d be down and out for who knows HOW long once his migraine hit. Sheesh...he was gonna be ordering more than just a single pizza when this was all over and done with.
But eh. Despite his grumpy thoughts, he’d been expecting the Guardian to come inspect matters. They were all stupidly protective of that stupid city, so if anyone so much as SNEEZED in its direction they were bound to go peeking around with hand sanitiser and face masks in tow. Whatever, he got that, and was prepared to retaliate should she get shitty with him. He was just pretty pissed that she’d just so HAPPENED to be passing through when he’d gone for this little inspection round. Ahhhh shit, how was he gonna bullshit his way through any sort of interrogation scheme she might get going? He wasn’t so sure he had the patience to stick to a lie as he was now, which could end very poorly--what.

He came to a complete and sudden stop, and fixed an incredulous stare on her after the Guardian used his name. Okay, time out. Since when was he on first name basis with the Tooth Fairy?
...was he already in trouble?
Despite the initial bout of paranoia, the fae was quickly able to write off the possibility that she’d heard about him through some of his less than savoury activities. That big ol’ dorky grin she had going was of the, ‘golly gee, I’m probably happy to see you,’ variety, and not the, ‘I’mma slit your throat, you dirty monster,’ sort. So that was nice. He’d just have to keep from triggering an axe murderer reaction out of her.
“Heeeeeeeeeey, you.” An uncertain tone was his answer to her polite and friendly approach, and he slipped his left hand into his pocket while he lifted his sunglasses up with his right, so he could get a better look at her. Sheesh, she looked bright. He didn’t even wanna imagine how much her feathers would sparkle when bathing directly in sunbeams. “Uh, probably a stupid question, but how the hell did you know it was me?” Just what kind of memory did this lady have on her? Heh, if her memory was this crazily specific, he didn’t even WANNA consider how many grudges she could hold.
...y’know what, he might take that back. He was suddenly very interested in just how many grudges he could inspire himself, but much like the fire plan, he’d have to put it on the back burner for now. There’d be plenty of time for her to learn to hate him later.

Or she could learn to hate him right now, depending on what happened. Jeez, she wasn’t wasting any time in getting into the interrogation. At least she was playin’ the part of the good cop. For now.
“Oh, pfft.” He blew a dismissive raspberry with his lips as his attention turned back towards the ominous thorns that he’d been leaving behind, and nodded at the freakishly high brambles. “I heard about a stupid patch of thorns and wanted to see how stupid it looked. Unsurprisingly, it looked every bit as stupid as I thought it would.” He grinned as he glanced back to her, and once his sunglasses were securely resting on his forehead, he slipped his right hand into his other pocket. “What about you? Goin’ into the labyrinth to collect some teeth or something?”

He stopped at her approach looking up at her and offering a somewhat uncertain greeting. Clearly she was not what he had been expecting to come across here, not that that was any surprise. Though the village certainly had a special place in her heart for the little village, as far as general knowledge of the Guardians went there was very little to tie her to the place beyond her friendship with some who were more directly linked to it. Not to mention even among immortals the Tooth Fairy was not one of the more readily recognizable figures so it was possible he did not even know who she was. Of course changeling's presented a rather complicated situation, raised on the mortal perspective on magic, which usually amount to childhood stories, but innately tied to it themselves so it was always hard to guess what level of knowledge one had.

"Oh, I know the name of anyone whose teeth I've collected," she replied with a slight shrug. After all it would be rather difficult to keep all the teeth organized and know who might need what memories if she could not keep track of who was who. "Part of the Tooth Fairy's job," she added with a smile.

She could not help but raise a brow at Raleigh's answer. "For having such a low opinion of the thicket you put yourself to a lot of trouble to see it," she replied, her tone matter-of-fact. The insult to the thorny wall was hardly something she would let ruffle her feathers, the point of the wall was to keep ill intentioned visitors out, not attract tourists. However if he really had no idea of its significance or what lay beyond the wall then it seemed strange that he should come all the way out just to see it. No, Toothiana suspected he had something more in his motivation or at least knew more than his answer let on. But that still left the question of whether it was a matter of innocent curiosity or something more problematic.

"I'm leaving the collecting to my fairies, tonight," she replied. "I thought it would be good to just get out and check up on a few things." She paused a moment, bright purple eyes studying Raleigh for a moment as she considered how to address some of the questions seeing the young man out here brought up. Come to think of it she was not quite sure that all of his baby teeth had been left for her over the years. It was not completely unheard of, sometimes a child's belief was quashed by accident or spitefulness a bit early and they stopped deliberately leaving teeth for her. Usually she could still find them, as long as a tooth wasn't completely destroyed it still had some pull for her. But without the child's faith that she would find it the magic could be a little less precise. And of course there was the fact that aside from a little uncertainty that probably had more to do with not expecting company he did not seem overly phased by the appearance of a flying feathered woman.

"So I take it you've worked out something about your nature?" She asked, telling someone they were in fact a fae baby swapped out for a human one onto unsuspecting parents was not something she really wanted to drop on someone out of the blue. So while it seemed he must have worked out something about magic existing and perhaps his own link to it this conversation would be a lot easier if she knew just how much of the specifics he knew.

@QUEEN TOOTHIANA

She knew the name of anyone whose teeth she collected.
...fuuuuuuuuck. This was, uh. A lot more awkward than he originally thought. She seriously had his teeth under lock and key somewhere, didn’t she? Sheesh. Sure, some people like to collect things as a hobby, but this was a little over the top.
If she were anyone else, he was pretty damn sure that the professed hobby of, ‘I collect the teeth of children,’ would get her on a watchlist. The sobering realisation had the fae pursing his lips, and at first he could only nod at her response. And when he did manage to speak, his tone was strained, but neutral. “All right then. Cool.” Jeez, and the Guardians thought that the Court of Shadows were the bad guys! Just how unaware were they of how weird their various tics were?
Santa broke into kids’ houses, the Easter Bunny left trails of candy for kids to find that led to WHO knows where, she collected teeth, and that little golden guy drugged kids into a deep sleep. And those were only the Big Four!
...that Jack Frost guy was all right, though. Mostly. Dude was still a Guardian, though, so that took away any cool points he had.

The horrifying realisations of the supposedly innocent nature of the Guardians’ work were put on hold (and thankfully so) as he was reminded of the fact that he was kind of in danger here. Pfft, she hadn’t smiled and nodded at that, huh? He couldn’t help the instinctual grin upon seeing her raised brow, nor would he have even tried to hide it. Might make her all the more suspicious, but screw it, that reaction had been pretty funny. Oh no. I had to walk a whole four miles to get here after teleporting as close as I possibly could.” He lifted his right hand from his pocket and placed it against his cheek out of shock and awe, and gave a solemn nod. “Yeah, you’re right, I went through a loooooot of trouble to get here.” He dropped his hand back to his pocket with a snicker, and shook his head. “I wasted more time starin’ at the thing than I took in getting here. It’s like…” He paused, and narrowed his eyes as he fixed a curious and thoughtful look on her. “Not sure if you keep up with technology or whatever, but it’s kinda like going to YouTube, and clicking on a video with the title of, “All Star by Smashmouth but every word is somebody,” and watching it while simultaneously having your expectations fulfilled, but being left with a burning question of, “why.”” Annnnd now that was gonna be stuck in his head. Jesus tapdancing Christ he’d be so upset if that’s all that was going through his head during his next migraine.

Oh but of COURSE she had a night off. One of the busiest and hardest working Guardians had decided to play hooky the day he came to look at the stupid bramble wall. Fuck that stupid thing, he was gonna suggest to the Boss Man that they douse it with gasoline and burn it.
But not right now. Right now, he had to sorta play nice with the Tooth Fairy. “Nice. A little R and R never hurt anyone.” Unless she was planning on actually doing work, and she may very well be, if that whole, ‘check up on a few things,’ was the main purpose of her playing hooky. Pffft. Was it too much to hope for that she’d announce an appointment she’d made with someone, and zip off soon?

The fae, stewing in his bitter, grumpy thoughts, was completely taken aback at the blunt and personal question that followed, and it showed in his blank expression and steady stare that he’d fixed upon her. Wha...oh cripes, she knew about that, too? Huuuh...was that why she was sticking around?
Bad time to mention that he’d ditched his human parents, huh?
“Sure did. All started with me remembering the time that grandma tried to chuck me into an oven.” He snickered and shook his head at the memory, far more amused by it than he was horrified. Like seriously, that old lady had brass balls to try to do something like that. He was almost sorry that his human parents had cut off contact with her, and probably filed all sorts of restraining orders against her.
Woulda been nice to see her again, and to let her know that she’d been absolutely correct. “Found my biological parents after that, and my brother. Found out that they’re all pricks, too, but at least my brother’s fun to be around.” His parents, on the other hand...if it weren’t for the useful things he learned while staying with them, he would’ve been out the door the second he walked through it, and he would’ve taken his brother with him then, too.
...oooooh, right. She probably cared about that. “He’s fine, by the way. He and I are living together now.” There, she had her happy ending. Human kid had been freed from the clutches of the malicious fae abductors. Could he go now?

He seemed surprised and perhaps a little off put by the revelation of her knowledge about the teeth but Toothiana had not really expected anything different. That bit of information certainly had not made it into what mortals general told their children about her, most of them did not even know why she collected and saved the teeth to begin with. It was not something she actively tried to share, realizing that the knowledge that every baby tooth held the precious memories of childhood could be misused by certain people, she also saw little reason to hold back from those who asked. For mortal children who managed to wake during one of her visits it would help dismiss any concerns they might have about what she was doing with their teeth and for immortals the information could be found from other, albeit now rare sources. It was, after all, well known to the Maharajah as it was how he first managed to reach Punjam Hy Loo and led her own parents to meet.

And it seemed he had a means to travel beyond just traveling through the forest. "I see," she replied to his somewhat sarcastic explanation. Though as he continued talking about some sort of odd video her expression was mostly just confused, clearly having no idea what he was talking about.

Toothiana gave a nod with a small smile. "That's actually something I'm told I should do try more often," she replied. She wouldn't exactly call her trip here one for rest and relaxation, she was still worried about how all the Guardians were dealing with the revelations and scare from the masquerade so her priority would be making sure those here were alright and seeing if there were others in the area who might need some questions answered. But that was not really anything Raleigh needed to concern himself with.

Violet eyes widened in slight alarm at the particular memory that had revealed his true nature to him. That was just the sort of thing she had been first concerned with when she discovered that first baby tooth that was not entirely human. However a peek at a few surface memories had mostly dismissed her fears as they were mostly filled with normal childhood experiences. Playing games, cared for by loving and nurturing parents. She supposed in hindsight grandparents had been somewhat absent from those memories but there were any number of reasons that could be- they could have simply lived far away or even passed on before the child was born. Though from the sound of it that had not been the case. "Well, thankfully that attempt didn't work," she replied.

It took only a moment for her to guess who he meant by brother but she had barely opened her mouth to ask about his human kin he was providing the answer. "That's good," she replied, a look of genuine relief crossing her features. "I'm glad you were able to find him then. Changelings have always been a complicated situation, and often can mean trouble for both children involved."

@QUEEN TOOTHIANA

Oh damn, looked like getting sarcastic helped this time around. Huuuh. That usually backfired, but he’d take it.
...along with that confused expression of hers.
Raleigh grinned and snickered as he shook his head after spying her look, and waved a hand through the air. “It’s better that you don’t know what I’m talking about. You really don’t wanna know. Let’s just say that humans come up with stupid and hilarious shit all the time, and they put it up for other people to enjoy. It usually doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.” And yet, because it didn’t make sense, it was hilarious. The overall sophistication of humour on the internet was at an all-time low, but he wasn’t sure that was a bad thing, really.
Weird and stupid, but not bad, not when it really was as funny as it was.

Although, he figured that Tooth wouldn't get that sorta humour, especially not if she rarely took time off to relax. He snorted at her comment and lifted his eyebrows at her, as if to silently ask you don’t say?
Figures that she wouldn’t often take them up on that advice. She really was a busybody. “Probably should, yeah. Don’t wanna work yourself into the ground, or whatever, even if you and that little golden guy have around the clock jobs.” He shrugged. “But you have help, yeah? So you can afford to take a few nights off here and there.” She just shouldn’t do that when he was trying to have fun. He REFUSED to have any other outings ruined by having to play nice with her.

Heh, but her reactions to his blunt comments were pretty funny, so there was that. His grin widened a bit at her shock, as she no doubt saw that sorta memory as...traumatic and best left buried, or something. He disagreed, if just because it was the one thing that really jumpstarted his journey of self-discovery. If he hadn’t of remembered that, he wasn’t sure he would’ve realised what he was as soon as he did, and if he hadn’t of gotten to his brother in time…
Dude would’ve been dead. His parents sure as fuck weren’t intending on keeping the guy around for very much longer when he’d taken the poor idiot with him. He liked the guy better when he was alive, so this outcome was just fine with him. “Oh, definitely. Probably would’ve died otherwise.” Unless there was some kinda secret defense system built into baby changelings that he was unaware of, he was pretty damn sure he wouldn’t have been able to do shit to keep from dying. It was a damn good thing that he was his mom’s first kid; she hovered as close as she could throughout most of his childhood.

Pfffft, she really had been looking for that happy ending. Well, good for her, she got SOME good news tonight. He, however, was determined to not let that good news stand without injecting a little horror into it. Besides~ She had to be curious about his fae parents, yeah? He’d be doing her a favour if he talked about them a bit, too. “You’re not wrong. It sure meant a lot of trouble for him, considerin’ that my fae parents only swiped him because they wanted a servant, and didn’t want me.” He gave her a thumbs up over that A+ parenting on their parts, but couldn’t help but snicker all the same. “Oh, and sorry if you’re missing a few of my teeth; bastards were frickin’ paranoid about you, and destroyed the last few teeth I had left to lose when I met them. They also destroyed all of my brother’s teeth, in case you were wonderin’ about those.”

...you know, saying all this shit aloud really drove home how shitty those guys had been. He’d always known, sure, but it was a different matter to be telling someone else about it. Sheesh, what was their problem? And why were they so scared of the Tooth Fairy?
He regarded her with a curious look, pursing his lips and tilting his head to one side. Was it because she was a Guardian, ooooor? Was it something else? “I’m curious now, though; if they hadn’t of destroyed his teeth, would you have found some way to rescue him?”

"I'll...take your word for it," Toothiana replied still not sure quite what to make of his anecdote but she did have some idea of the odd things humans could find amusing and fun for a moment. But by the sound of it not having seen it was not exactly missing anything vital.

It seemed he was relatively familiar with the Guardians then, knowing not only that she knew Sandy but even apparently having an idea of his appearance if the "little golden guy" comment was anything to go by. And he even seemed to be familiar with the idea of her having helpers. Though it was hard to say how much she knew exactly, of course being fae he would inherently be a little more attuned to the magical world than the average mortal so he might have noticed herself, fairies, or Sandy passing over head from time to time. But now considering his presence here she could not help but wonder if he might have a bit more interest in the Guardians or perhaps the war. "I suppose so," she replied with a small smile. "It's just a matter of actually taking that advice," she added with a slight laugh.

And he seemed quite casual about the incident with his grandmother. The very idea still was a bit distressing to Toothiana, of course she was all too familiar with it in the past but she had at least hoped that modern mortals would be less prone to such drastic measures. And as he continued to speak it sounded like his human counterpart had been even worse off. At least Raleigh had the protection of his (unknowingly) adopted parents. The other boy however had just been treated as a servant apparently. Violet eyes were somber as she listened, the poor boy. But he was away from them now evidently and there was hardly anything she could do to change the past.

Toothiana gave a small nod at his mention of the destruction of both boy's teeth. She could not help a slight frown of irritation at the idea- such destruction of the teeth really did irk her. The memories in them belonged to the owner, and well, it didn't sound like he would have had many positive memories to be saved but still it was cruel and especially annoying to know they did so specifically so that she wouldn't find them. She did her best to soften her expression though, it was hardly Raleigh's fault it had been done. "I can't say I'm surprised," she replied.

And then he posed a question. It...sounded like he had mostly cut ties with his fae family. So she supposed it wouldn't be too dangerous to confirm that that was a very effective way at keeping her from discovering such situations or doing anything for the child in question. "Well...there would still be the difficulty of entering the fae realms, depending on where they were," she replied. "Despite the name I'm not a fairy in that sense- I don't have inherent access to Faerie. A tooth remaining in tact might help guide me to an entry point but it still wouldn't be a guarantee, especially if magical defenses and barriers were involved." Not that those would stop her from trying. And of course she did have friends who were more learned in enchantments, not to mention some new Guardians who were in fact fae themselves. But she decided not to mention those added advantages. Most likely a race as ancient and familiar with magic as fae would already know plenty of effective precautions- as her inability to help his brother was proof of. But just in case this conversation got back to any of them she did not mind if they underestimated her resources to reach their secret hideaways.
