Tooth's Palace- August 2024

With a couple taps of his foot and a trip through a mossy tunnel, Bunnymund found himself surrounded by the familiar scenery of Punjam Hy Loo. It was later in the evening, and the setting sun’s light and familiar rosy skies of the magical place instantly brought a smile to his face. It had been a long overdue visit- but the Pooka was more than looking forward to catching up with Toothiana.

If there was one thing he loved about Punjam Hy Loo it was that this place had to be one of the more magical ones that sadly most humans had no idea about. With its tall spires of red rock, glimmering golden architecture with gem inlaid surfaces, and weathered trees- the Tooth Fairy’s palace was quite a site to behold. Passing the blue oasis waters near the magical murals, Bunnymund made his way up the stairs.

Tooth’s palace was always a flurry of activity and today was no different. He could easily pick up her voice instructing the little tooth fairies of where they needed to go and which teeth to collect. And once he came into view some of the flurry stopped just as a tad as a gaggle of small tooth fairies came flying over to him.

“’Ey there, long time it’s been, ay?” Bunnymund said as the fairies cheerfully twitted and showed a very keen interest in the bag he had brought with him. “Already curious, no worries it’s just what you think it is- chocolate.”

He opened the bag to the twittering excitement of the small fairies. A couple of them swooped in taking pieces of the chocolate that Aster had made specially for them. However, one familiar tooth fairy flew over happily looking into the sack. Her feathers were a rosy pink color with just a hint of the familiar tooth fairy green and a splash of gold here and there. Excitedly she reached into the bag to get her piece only to stop and sniff it. What followed next was rather amusing, but also expected to the Pooka. The small fairy dropped the piece with a huff and looked up at Aster pouting.

“Oy, don’t be giving me tha’look Sweet Tooth. Low sugar chocolates aren’t the worst thing in the world.” He said with a chuckle.

Sweet Tooth shook her head and twittered a bit; clearly making her case that no- low sugar chocolates were the worst thing in the world. They were made of lies and cruelty.

Shaking his head, Bunnymund procured another small sack for Sweet Tooth, inside was a lovely regular sized chocolate bonbon filled with strawberry crème in all its sugary goodness.

“You going to share?” Aster asked amused as Sweet Tooth instantly brightened up and began happily squeaking. She paused in her cheers at the question and blinked, clearly weighing this.

Finally she nodded and pointed to the bonbon tracing it in half. One half, she pointed to and then to herself… which left the other half…. Well Sweet Tooth was now drawing imaginary lines on the bonbon half for the others clearly intending to eat one half for herself, and then split the other half with the multitude of other fairies. Well… he tried. He nodded and held it out to her and she took it, it was big compared to her, but her wings were pretty strong and she took the chocolate bonbon to a corner to feast. Whether she would actually share, Bunnymund was not sure, but he was glad to make Sweet Tooth happy.

Of course it wasn’t before long that Toothiana also made her way over. Bunnymund couldn’t help smiling, and he waved “G’day Tooth. How’re you? Not to busy I hope.”

It was never long after a visitor arrived in the Tooth Palace before the queen was alerted about it. The pillars were quite literally abuzz with the mini-fairies excitement. And it was a positive chatter that filled the air and Toothiana's mind as the mini-fairies alerted her to their visitor through the connection she shared with them. And so Toothiana eagerly flew from her place in the central pillar and towards the cluster of shimmering feathers and humming wings, smiling as she heard the excited chirps announcing the presence of Bunnymund. And of course he had come bearing sweets for the mini-fairies.

Honestly she a friendly visitor was a welcome thing. They had all been so on edge since what happened in Centralia just earlier this month. Her fairies were keeping their eyes out for any new threats that might be lurking and everything felt like they were on their guard. A moment or two to relax with an old friend was perhaps just what was needed.

"Bunny, it's good to see you!" Toothiana greeted her old friend cheerfully as she flew into the small swarm of fairies. "I'm doing well," she replied. "Well, we're always busy, but I see you've brought some treats to help keep everyone's energy up." She added laughing as she glanced around at the other fairies.

"And what about you?" She asked. "Everything alright?"

Bunnymund was glad to see Toothiana in good spirits. They had a difficult time recently, but like usual things were calming down once again. Even if all of the Guardians were on alert... it was nice to enjoy the quiet moments as well.

He let out a chuckle, "Can't come here and not bring snacks. Don't wanna be impolite." Aster said grinning, "Glad to help keep energy and spirit up."

At her question the Pooka's ears twitched slightly but he still smiled, "So far I'm doin' alright. Same old...same old. Just thought I'd drop in and check in on ya."

He knew that Toothiana was always hard at work. And today was no different. But it made it all the more important to visit and check in on her. He should probably pay a visit to the others as well. Even if some of them didn't like to admit it- visits like that went a long way in maintaining bonds and good feelings. And well he had nothing better to do at the moment. Easter and Spring were both pretty far out...now would be a good time to get those things done.

"Anything new up here?"
he inquired with a friendly smile.

"Of course not," Toothiana giggled at Bunny's mention of not wanting to be impolite. "And your treats are always appreciated. As I think you can tell." She added, smiling fondly as she glanced over at the little cluster of fairies nibbling away at the candies. Tooth nodded at his next words, still smiling. It was only natural that the Guardian of Hope would know just how to keep up morale up.

And she could understand why he thought to check in now. They were all rather shaken by recent events. It was good to hear that he was doing well, though she couldn't help a curious look that flashed in her gaze when she noticed the little twitch of his ear. Usually a sign that the Pooka had something on his mind but she decided not to press it. If Bunny thought it was something she needed to know he would tell her at some point.

"Daisy, the flower nymph that just became a Guardian, seems to have recovered and is doing well, she's gone out to travel some now. Have you had a chance to meet her?" she replied to his question. She flitted over to a nice shaded spot, gesturing for Bunnymund to follow and make himself comfortable. "I've been stirring a few extra happy memories here and there. Other than that, it's been business as usual for the most part." She lowered herself down to kneel, her wings for once growing still, the translucent appendages shimmering in what light filtered down to the spot.

Bunnymund glanced at the cluster of fairies as Toothiana looked. He smiled to see them all happily chittering and nibbling away. Even Sweet Tooth was sharing bits of her bonbon with the others. It was good to visit Tooth, good to visit Punjam Hy Loo... he ought to do it a bit more.

Aster didn't miss the curious look in Toothiana's features as he felt his ear twitch... ah the curse of being a Pooka... it made his feelings a little bit easier to read, not like he'd readily admit it. However, thankfully Toothiana was of the respectful type. She understood him and she knew that he would open up if he was ready.

"Oh?" He asked following her to the shaded spot and sitting down. "'Fraid not. Not yet at least. Gotta get out and meet more of them. We got a whole bunch of 'em now." He said with a smile, "Times really are changing...compared to how they were."

Bunnymund still had to go around and meet everyone...the new Guardians were getting numerous...and it would be important to make sure they all got along. Bunnymund relaxed, the fresh air felt great and the temperature while warm, wasn't too hot. It seemed that even Toothiana was relaxing- her wings for once not flittering as she relaxed nearby.

"...That's good." He said in response to her spreading happier memories. "I'll probably be busy myself soon in order to prepare for spring down under." he said with a grin.

He smiled, but there was still...something bothering him if he was honest.... if it continued to...he'd speak up. But for now, he wanted to keep conversation pleasant.

Toothiana was not surprised that Bunny had not yet had a chance to meet one of their newer allies. Daisy had only recently joined with the Guardians after all, and while there had been a time when they were able to really meet and even work with new Guardians as soon as they were called, lately their numbers had been growing so quickly it was difficult to keep up.

"They certainly have," she agreed. "I haven't actually met with nearly as many as I'd like to," Tooth admitted. But it is good that there are so many of us out there now- keeping their eyes on things." With their enemies growing their own numbers and Pitch already having proven himself capable of setting plans in motion without their noticing in the past the Tooth Fairy could not help but feel every pair of eyes out there was much needed. Centralia had been all too close a call and one she would prefer not to repeat.

"A Guardian's work is never done," she replied with a hint of laughter when he mentioned getting busy with spring in the southern part of the world. There really was no end to what they all had to do but for the most part it was all worthwhile knowing that they were doing their part to help people in large and small ways.

Bunnymund enjoyed these moments, the breezy chatter was a nice break from the more serious aspects of their jobs. It was nice to have these bonds that remained strong despite distance and time. Aster counted himself truly lucky.

"Well nor have I, but we can't exactly meet everyone and everything immediately. There will always be chances' ya know what I'm sayin'?" He said with a small smile, "Not sayin' that I don't want to meet them. O'course I do- but we all have jobs and the children come first."

He chuckled when she mentioned that a Guardian's work was never done- it was true. "Ye....specially for you. You and Sandy both work practically every night. I just have to worry about my one- and my perishables." He said with a sigh.

He did want to ask her how she was holding up but she had already said she was doing well. So for now he'd wait a bit until perhaps there was a good part in the conversation to bring it up.

Toothiana smiled and gave a nod at Bunny's words. The Pooka had changed a great deal over all their years together but some things remained constant. His value of wisdom and the ability to keep a practical view on things. While it might be the ideal to meet and know every Guardian that joined the ranks but they had other work to do. They had a cause and could trust that time would allow them to meet when the others when the time was right.

"You're right," she agreed with a smile. "Things have changed since we were just a small band. In a lot of ways." Her pleasant mood remained even if her expression became a touch more sober. The increasing number of Guardians meant they could reach out to more children, encourage and protect them in a wider range of ways. But it meant they couldn't maintain the same bonds they had when they were just four or five. But it also was a reminder that Pitch's forces were growing too. And they weren't holding back if recent events were anything to go by.

"That we do," she said with a soft laugh. "And yet you and North still have to debate which day is bigger." She teased. The old debate was a familiar one to the group, one she doubted either of them actually expected to have an answer but it did keep things lively. "But I can't take all the credit. My fairies have always been a help and they've been taking on more since I started getting back into the field again."

Bunny relaxed a bit as he took in Toothiana's words, "Yea... but not in a bad way I think. Good that we have newer Guardians to help keep kids safe, ay?" He smiled warmly remembering all the new members. While he may not have talked to them at length- he still knew who was now a Guardian. Who had decided that it would be well worth it to guard and protect the children and people of this world against Pitch Black's overreaching hand.

He let out a short laugh when Tooth brought up his feud with North about whether Christmas or Easter was more important, "Listen, I'm just saying Easter is just as important as Christmas. He's the one that insists Christmas is better." he said. He was mostly joking....mostly.

"Ah... of course these little ones do'a good job," He said with a soft smile, "Glad you are out in the field more, have to say I quite like it myself."

Golden plumed feathers swayed slightly as Toothiana nodded cheerfully at Bunnymund's response. Having more allies in the cause to protect children and even adults was indeed welcome, especially now that Pitch was growing so active and developing a following of his own.

"Yes," she replied with a smile. "There can never be too many people looking out for them." Of course she knew plenty of beings out there did protect and help mortals even if they did not bear the title of Guardian but with more taking the oath it meant that they had a larger network to work from.

"I see," she giggled at Bunny's explanation of the debate between him and North. There certainly was no denying that North loved his holiday but, while he was one of the more boisterous of the group, the same could be said for all of the Guardians and their work. They each put their heart into the work they did and the gifts they gave the children, whatever form those gifts might take.

Tooth smiled in return as they mentioned getting out in the field. "I do too," she replied. "The children are so sweet- even if they are sleeping, usually," she chattered. "And a lot have been taking wonderful care of their baby teeth, too!"

It was refreshing being in Punjam Hy Loo, the air was fresh and the breeze was light. It was also good to see Toothiana's reaction. Her cheerfulness could brighten anyone's day - even if they were discussing a perhaps slightly heavy topic. Of course that didn't mean they couldn't have a lighter topic.

He grinned when Toothiana giggled, "Ye.... can't let him go around thinkin' that." He said with a slight chuckle.

"Have they now? I know I've been sometimes making sugar free and healthier treats for Easter. Seems like parents are becoming more vigilant with the candy their children partake in. Always something new each and every year."

In all honesty, sometimes it was hard for Bunnymund to keep up with all the new ideas and new restrictions. He didn't mind honestly, if it was better for the kids or to prevent an allergic reaction or condition getting worse... candy was after all a very small part of what he offered. He mainly brought hope and eggs...but if he was honest...

The kids always looked forward to chocolate.
