Oscar loved lazing around in the park.

In his wolf form no less. It took a while to wear off after a night gazing at the full moon. Usually well into the next day, which apart from having to skip breakfast and elevensies, worked out well for Oscar. He simply slept through it and enjoyed being a canid for a little bit. Most people could recognize wolves by their appearance and lanky build but Oscar looked a lot more like a big wolf mix than anything else.

He was big. At least twice the size of any other wolf he'd encountered. Normally the idea would scare people but Oscar was....fat, to put it bluntly. He had a large rotund belly even as a wolf, and people mistook him for a chunky husky. Oh, he didn't mind. It got him rubbed ears and a rubbed belly.

Today he was in the Burgess Park, flopped serenely on his back with his legs in the air and the tip of his nose tickling the grass. His tail flipped around lazily, wanting to express his happiness at being out in the sun but not being too energetic about it. He yawned and shifted to one side. The grass was a bit chilly, and he wanted to feel the air ruffling his thick black fur. His lips pulled back into an awkward imitation of a smile.

Yes, napping the day away with the library in full view was perfect. He'd get lunch, catch up on tea, then go read a book. All he needed was a better bipedal form.

Ginger was taking an early lunch break, carrying her food out of the library building and into the nice autumn sunshine. The park was lovely this time of the year, sunny and dressed in warm colors, before winter would make it painful to be outside. Not that Ginger disliked winter. She just enjoyed eating outside, and Jack Frost usually made that pretty uncomfortable.
She'd have to talk to the guy at some point. Apparently he was a bit of a celebrity.

The librarian bounced down the library steps and into the park, looking around for some of her favorite benches to see if they were available. Next to one of them, a large pile of... fur?... caught her eyes. At first, she thought it was someone's abandoned coat; and then that it was a black bear way out of its habitat. Upon closer inspection, however, the pile turned out to be an upside-down husky. A... rotund one.

"Hello there buddy" Ginger grinned, excited to make a new pet friend, and possibly sneak-feed them dumplings until their owner showed up to disapprove. "You like belly rubs?"

Oscar heard and smelled someone approaching, but didn't really bother to open his eyes. By the scent it was a female, and he rather liked women. He thumped his tail on the ground appealingly as she approached. Why yes, he did enjoy belly rubs. He stretched out his back legs to emphasize this particular point, opening one large grey eye to look at her. A bit of a musty smell hung about her. That enchanting combination of old paper, glue, thread and old leather.

Did she work at the library? He lifted his head after an adequate amount of time to let her scratch his belly and butted against her like a big cat. Oh, she had food as well, and from the smell of it exactly the sort of thing one would eat on a nice autumn afternoon. Lord, he missed breakfast. The bad thing about being in this form was his rather stern kibosh on eating the sort of things a wolf would eat. Raw squirrel or deer hunting was out of the question. It was a bloody mess and he always had the worst stomach cramps when he shifted back.

But oh, dumplings. With just a nice spot of tea or coffee to wash it down with, perhaps some rice or boiled cabbage. He sat down in front of her and gave her his best begging face, flopping his ears down and making his eyes big. Would she have pity on a poor starving creature chained to a rather ungainly form?

Oh yes. The large puppy was all about the belly rubs. Ginger chuckled as she knelt down, and set her lunch box aside to use both hands for the scratching. The size of the dog certainly merited that. He was friendly, and rubbed his head against her hand, so she also gave him some ear scratches. The thing about dogs was, one could love on them until her hands fell off. Cats would walk away after a while, but not dogs...

"Who's a good boy? Who's a gooood boy?"

He was. And he knew it. He sat up, eventually, and then presented the unmistakable begging face, one that almost made Ginger melt.

"Oooh, someone wants dumplings doesn't he... You want dumplings? Do you?" she opened the lunch box and took a dumpling out, holding it out in front of the dog (that, upon closer inspection, appeared to be a wolf of some sort).
