Oscar was the current embodiment of happiness. He was in a cafe in Portofino, the jewel of the italian riviera. There was no happier place on earth for Oscar. It was rich coffee and faint music from the constant little fairs and street vendors, all mixed with the background of the harbor on the eve of autumn. Today was a perfect day.

The werewolf had a few acquaintances in Portofino. He had a small villa there, so old a lot of people thought he'd inherited it. It wasn't any large grand affair, but it did have a view of the harbor and it was on the top floor. Tourists would strangle their inlaws for less. As usual, said villa was never empty. Oscar made the location of the keys public knowledge. Anyone who needed it could stay there.

Even though some people took advantage of this, the majority recognized it for what it was. He had stopped keeping nice silverware there, however.

It wasn't a day to worry about such things. He, as usual, was waiting for someone who needed him. He could always go around to his normal little haunts in the back streets, but he'd made arrangements for many of the boys and girls living there. It was unlikely they'd have grown any new little wildflowers.

You should know;
You're beautiful just the way you are;
This was exactly what Lucky had needed. A vacation far, far away from home and in a new culture! She always traveled alone, so any limitations were her own. Today had been just lovely. With fair weather, it had given her plenty of time to shop to her heart’s content before going out to dinner. Maybe afterward she would see what the nightlife was all about in Italy! It was her third day in Portofino and she had yet to see the city at night! She’d heard some of it from her open hotel window, but she had been so jet-lagged that it felt impossible. Tonight was the night!

But for now, something to eat. Lucky walked down a small side street, meant only for foot traffic. Here, all the restaurants and cafes had large outdoor seating areas that she always loved about Europe. Nothing was better than fresh air and good food.

She plunked down in a seat outside, taking off a pair of ridiculously oversize emerald green sunglasses and placed them aside, not too far from where Oscar sat. This street didn’t have much traffic and, seeing as it was not quite dinner yet, it was only the two of them seated outside. She ordered some sort of desert and a tea, then sat there, humming to herself for a little bit before reaching into her bag for a little notebook, which she proceeded to draw in. It wasn’t good drawing, but it was something to take up time, at least. The buildings across the street sprung to life with pen strokes that had very little care put into them. Still, she hummed happily and wore a big smile on her face.

She was very much less classy than this other man. This large girl wore white shorts that curled up her thighs as she sat and a loose bright pink tank top with a large yellow duck on the front. Her mane of hair was tossed up haphazardly in a bun, curly tendrils flying this way and that. Her skin was decorated here and there with tattoos and she had a ring in her nose. All together, she was very modern looking with just the hint of an edge to her.

Oscar noticed the young lady who sat down a little distance away from him. She was far more modern than he, but in a way that was endlessly charming. Her buxom figure was a refreshing shift from the endlessly leggy italians, and he had to laud her fashion sense with the sunglasses. He was a bit disappointed he'd not brought something like that to wear himself! A little dessert and tea, and sketching. A woman after his own heart.

He got up, taking his afternoon coffee with him, and approached her table. "Remarkable." he said, looking at her sketches. "I believe you might have caught the soul of Portofino on the pages. Take care, she is a gentle soul and happy upon such mediums." He smiled at her and took the seat across from her at the table.

For a moment the poet watched the landscape she was sketching. Ah, the way the light bounced off the buildings and gave the serene sort of look one only got halfway into a nap. He sipped his coffee quietly, trying as much as possible not to disturb the moment. Occasionally silence was a wonderful companion, and the little scritches and scratches of her pen filled in the silence quite nicely for him. Unfortunately it wasn't to last; silence was best kept in small doses. "How did you come across the Italian Riveira? She often beckons to artists from all over the world, but rarely those so beautiful. She usually speaks to old creatures like me who flirted with her in their younger years." he asked with a genial smile.

At the sound of another voice, Lucky jumped and looked up at the man approaching. He didn’t look especially special, though his smile was warm and comforting, and that warmth met with his eyes as well. His voice was kind, his words flowering and a certain ebb and flow to them that captured her attention.

“Oh, it’s not that good. Just doodling, really. Something to pass the time,” she giggled a little and closed the book, a bit shy for someone to see that. And such high compliments. The soul of Portofino in those scribblings? That seemed too high of a compliment. She should be a little wary, even though she’d never really been in real trouble before. Lucky was sure this man was very kind and she was just being paranoid. Plus, she could always use the company.

Lucky looked up at him as he began to speak again, mouth wide open, ready to receive a fork full of dessert. There was a moment there, where it was just held and Lucky had to decide between eating it and putting the fork down. She ate it. Her cheeks were full as she chewed and seemed to think on it. She gave a quick shrug as she swallowed.

“Honestly? I just hadn’t come here yet, so I wanted to. It’s really pretty,” she giggled and looked around the area. “I mean, look at all of this! It’s so amazing. I’m not really an artist looking for something to paint, or looking to get back my younger years or anything. I just wanted to see it because I hadn’t seen any of this before. I love to see and experience new things, and Portofino is new! Well, at least to me. Not the world, but to me!” She took a sip from her cup and tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear.

He really hadn't meant to startle her. He didn't consider himself a sneaky fellow; he was far too large for all that silliness. She must have truly been so encapsulated in her work she hadn't seen him come by. Charming. He watched her blush and cover up her sketches like he'd caught her in the middle of changing, repeating that they weren't that good.

"Nonsense." he said lightly. "Not being here yet is the best reason to come here. So few people travel these days, and sometimes I fear the Riviera has fallen by the wayside." He took a sip of his own drink and looked across Portofino for a moment. "Perhaps, if you will permit me to be so bold, you're in need of a guide. The ghost of vistas past." he chuckled.

Oscar didn't know if she'd take him up on the offer, but he liked the idea. She was young, beautiful, and just the right amount of refreshing 'different' that would capture his interests. Oh, she didn't need his charitable side but he did desperately want her as a companion. "I am headed just outside Portofino tomorrow, to see an old friend of mine. He works in the lifeblood of the soul. Great, shimmering structures I have missed and pined for since my last visit here. It is truly enchanting to see. Would you like to accompany me?" he asked cheerfully.

LORISA // He just wants to show her things now.

“The lifeblood of the soul?” Lucky asked with a giggle. There was a sparkle in her eye. Like, that sounded so exciting. His friend could have been an accountant and Lucky was sure Oscar could find a way to make it sound immensely interesting.

Lucky had found herself bored as of late. Everywhere she went was a little different, but so the same somehow! It was becoming… monotonous to be alive even for THIS long. Like, there had to be something more out there, right? There had to be something more to life than how she lived it now! Manager of a coffee place? It was so… unimportant. All of it felt so unimportant and Lucky wanted to do something that actually mattered. So, her eyes sparkled with hope, with wonder, with want for whatever world this man lived in. Even if it wasn’t her’s it was at least something so different. Lucky leaned forward, her hands propped up on the table to hold her chin.

“I’d love to! Y’know, I had, like, nothing planned for this trip. I was just going to go with the flow. You’re like a huge tidal wave!” Lucky sat up straight and makes a big wave motion with her arm and crashed onto the table, she even added sound effects. She paused and blushed. “Well, I mean, you’re much more charming that a crashing wave. You’re more like a calm, lapping wave, aren’t you? You’re definitely not still waters, you have more energy than that… oh, metaphors are hard! Oh well, “ Lucky shrugs and laughs, her entire face red. Yeah, she’d just talked much more than she’d meant to.

Lucky shakes her head.

“Anyway, yes. Yes, I’ll go with you,” Lucky repeated, hoping that her rambling hadn’t turned him off of her.

Looking at Oscar again now, she realized that she should be more cautious than she was being. He could be some sort of kidnapper trying to take advantage of her nïavety. Even so, bad fates never truly ever came to Lucky. He was probably just a kind, portly man that meant no hard and simply wanted the company.
