Pippa was not normally lost her temper. If anything, she was the opposite. She was normally cheerful, but quiet. Words were sometimes difficult to use and when she used them they came with a false bravado. When they were used genuinely, she became a slight mess and seemed younger than she was. A temper was not normally something would imagine her having, not unless they had pushed her into a corner and were trying to make decisions for her. Those were rare moments considering that even in moments of trouble she normally tried to stand tall.

Standing tall was not her reaction to this situation. No, she was angry and she hated it. She wasn't an angry or violent person. It was exactly what she had been trying to avoid, something which had been difficult between being stuck as a watchout and Neverland. After all, all Pan did was attack the ship and he clearly thought his chaos was equivalent to a game.

She scowled heavily, a scoff escaping her. "Idiot," she snapped, because he was an idiot, "Who tries to steal shit from people and expects it given to them?" She didn't mention that the reason she didn't know how to fight or was stuck on the ship unlike most of the crew was because she was a cabin boy. She wasn't supposed to know how to fight. She was new. She would learn shit like that with time.

She grunted as he pushed her, only paying half-attention as his stomach growled. A terrible feeling of guilt gnawed at her. It would be easy to give him something to eat and it wasn't like she hadn't stolen from the ship before. However, she found herself hesitating, unsure if such kindness would even be accepted. After all, they were in the kitchen and all he seemed to care about was getting whatever they had fucking stolen.

It was starting to seem less and less like he was going to get what he wanted. But one thing was certain; the boy wasn’t leaving without some victory. Whether that meant scratching up this girl, or trashing something on the ship….anything would do. He could tell he was grating on her nerves, and right now that was enough. He felt a bit like Hassan must have, back in that shitty place. Having some sort of power….in a situation...he was starting to understand Hassan’s position a little better. That it could be fun like this...so long as he had power in some form. Even just emotionally.

He still hated Hassan, but maybe he could understand better.

”Whoever’s worthy gets what he wants…” he hissed, narrowing his eyes. ”...an those who’s smart listen.” He curled his lips into a grin--

...only for it to fade and his eyes to widen. He clutched his head. Fingers on the inside of his mind were clawing closer, the voice there laughing audibly inside his head. Worthy...we’re worthy now, are we? Would we be worthy without me? You’re claiming credit for something that’s not yours...I don’t appreciate that, small one.

”Shut up! Shut the fuck up, it’s not your business, I didn’t call you, go away fucker!”

But you’re having trouble on your own….you don’t have to call on me for me to see that. Don’t you want that treasure?

”Get out. Piss off.” He was so fucking close to bashing his head into a wall or something, anything, to knock him out.

Pippa's eyes narrowed into slits at the youth's words, a vile retort on the tip of her tongue. However, whatever she might have been able to say immediately died away as the boy's expression shifted. As if possessed, he clutched his head and snarling at something that she could not see.

She was not sure if he was crazy or something else was going on. Perhaps both. After all, it was clear that the boy was not entirely normal- she hesitated to say not human- and experience had taught her that there could be many explanations for what was going on. Not all explanations were the most logical, but that did not mean they had their own logic.

Taking the opportunity as it was given, she quickly slid away. She was obviously not going to win this by fighting. She had to get him off and quick. After all, she was not an idiot and knew that the longer this went on the more likely company would soon arrive. Between dealing with this herself and another member of the crew getting involved, she preferred to deal with the former.

Deciding to leave this area, she bolted for the door.

He’d misjudged. Pharaoh was going to take him over. The teen yanked sharply at his own hair, trying to distract himself. Sometimes pain...sometimes that helped him retain control. Pain or a third party. Someone else interfering forced him to pay attention to them, grounded him. He turned toward the girl. She didn’t have any reason to do anything for him, but he didn’t care; he’d still reach out anyway….because anything was better than nothi-

Ah.

She’d turned her back on him. She was leaving….

In the same position he would’ve done that. Or taken a club to his head. She was taking advantage of the situation...he couldn’t say that he blamed her. But all the same…..it was that final hope crushed...that was all Pharaoh needed to take over. That smile in the back of his mind faded away, disappearing as instead the teen found himself replaced, buried deep in that space that was their mind.

His countenance shifted almost instantly. The boy stood tall, arms crossed over his chest, lips curled into a smirk. The door….that was where the girl had gone. He hummed, heading through it, hands loosely in his pockets. Ah…..his host was hungry. That would be a problem...it made him weaker. That wasn’t what he was here for though….knowing his host, he wanted the treasure. That was foolish….stealing a pirate’s treasure would just make him a target. They’d come after him. And Pharaoh couldn’t allow that. But more than that….he’d fought back when Pharaoh offered his aid.

Oh, no….he wasn’t allowed to have what he wanted, just for that.

”Yo…..you’re out there, somewhere...aren’t you?” he called out, his voice casual and calm. ”I just need something to eat...and then I’ll leave. How does that sound? Your treasure isn’t worth the trouble….” Whether his words were to imply it was worthless or not was left to interpretation.

Pippa liked to think that she was a smart individual. After all, she had a relatively good head on her shoulders and had always been good at surviving. Just as she had explored the world for magic and what was fascinating, she had come across a fair amount of things that were dangerous in the process. Becoming part of Hook's crew had only increased this and, as far as she was concerned, forced whatever survival instincts she had to become better. After all, the Captain was cruel, using both his cruelty and cunning to keep his ship in line. It did not go past her that he was more than willing to permanently get rid of anyone he thought useless.

Yet, the young woman also held a good heart. It didn't always show, if only because she tended to bury who she truly was behind a façade of who she thought others wanted to see. Things were safer that way. After all, nobody ever seemed interested in Pippa. Pippa was a person who believed things that were wrong and not adult enough for the real world. People liked who she pretended to be. They liked the smile and the fake bravado that hid her constant worry, cheerfulness, and large amount of belief.

Pippa didn't like who she pretended to be.

As such, she could not help but take pause as the boy spoke up again. Something felt...off and she still felt a bit guilty about this all. She wasn't the sort who turned her back on others. However, she did care for her life and the boy seemed quite intent upon causing her harm.

She bit her lip before hesitantly glancing through the crack in the door. However, she quickly found herself narrowing her eyes. "You're...different." The words sounded accusing. She didn't have much of an explanation about the matter except that he felt off and was acting too different. Just a moment ago he had been ready to bite her head off for treasure he hadn't even had proof she knew the location of. Now, it was apparently not worth the trouble.

Her eyes narrowed. "You're not him." She had little proof on the matter, if a sudden change in personality even counted as proof. "Besides, you're in a kitchen. You can get food yourself."

He didn’t know where the cabin-boy had gone. Hiding….a hiding game. That was terribly dull...even if he sought to humiliate his host, to leave empty of treasure, he would like to meet this strange girl...no he coudln’t see her, but he could feel something about her...something that was not so strong as the outside shell. He was not interested in gaining anything of worldly value from this ship...but he certainly was interested in the strange girl that held fast against his host. That was rare. And that made her tempting.

The Sheut clicked his tongue at her words - accusatory, a judgement. He shook his head, giving a shrug of both shoulders. ”Different….am I?” he asked, his voice lazy, drawling. ”But I look the same….so I think perhaps you must be mistaken. After all...I’ve been standing here this whole while. I couldn’t possibly be anyone else. Unless you mean to say something else….” He tilted his head to the side, tapping the side of his head with his index finger. ”Do you mean….in here? Someone new….in here?”

He took a step back, eyeing the kitchenware. Knives, cutting boards...he could see the few fresh vegetables sitting on a board. He reached out casually, taking a carrot, partially skinned. The cook had been in the middle of preparing a dish before he left, clearly. He took a bite from it, crunching loudly. ”You should come out. I want to see you. I would like to see better the one who would accuse me of something so bold. I would like to know who you are.”

He could not simply take her name, nor did he particularly intend to; she was not the one to be judged here. But he did wish to know her all the same. There was something about her that was flawed...and perhaps he could find it.

Pippa did not trust...whoever this was. The boy had been easy to deal with. He had been simple in that he wanted to steal and was willing to, presumably, do anything to get what he wanted. It was a mindset that she had come to know rather well as of late even though she did not tend to experience it herself. Moreover, it was one that she did not know how to work against. She was no fighter- not yet, though she was not sure if there was a cause of worry about that- and what she could do was limited. In fact, all she really had was her brains.

She supposed...that was exactly what she had to use to get out of this. After all, she was fairly sure that was the only reason she was kept around. It was what she had sold to Captain Hook in a desperate attempt to avoid death: she knew stuff

In this case, she knew that magic was not always obvious. Sometimes, it was subtle and blended in well with what the average person thought was normal. It was like the wind magic she had been told, not like flying ships or immortal boys. Moreover, she knew quite well that not everybody who was magical wanted normal people to know about it. If she had to make a guess as to why, it was probably a superiority thing. After all, living longer and having magical powers that made you stronger probably boosted the ego. That was just a guess though.

This dude? Definitely not the same. His attempt at lying was fairly half-assed. She wasn't sure if it was because he was a bad liar, he wasn't trying, or he just thought her an idiot. She kind of hoped that it wasn't the last one, but...she wouldn't be surprised. People seemed to be inclined to treating her like she had no idea what she was doing in regards to anything nowadays.

Her eyes narrowed to slits and she found herself quite determined not to move from where she was if she could, as if the door might provide some safety. "Just because you look the same doesn't mean you are the same," she said, a hint of steel entering her tone, "And I somewhat doubt it is new. Besides, last I checked the teen I was talking to before talked and acted differently." His sentences were far more well put together and there was a certain level of...hm...arrogance? Charm? Probably a mixture.

She pursed her lips, eying him as if he were a snake. In many respects, he certainly felt like it. After all, the boy she had been speaking to only moments ago had not cared about her much. "Yeah, that sounds like a bad idea," she said, deciding to not mention the fact that she didn't much like his tone. Telling people who seemed to be used to getting their way that they were being arrogant was usually a dumb thing to do, especially if they were a complete unknown.

Oh this was interesting….troublesome but interesting. His host was an amusing rascal, such fire and anger in his thin-framed bones, like a small vicious animal. But sometimes that small animal made a mess where it was not supposed to, and received punishment. So, Pharaoh would punish his host. There was food all around them, easy enough to swipe and run, but no - he refused his host’s hunger, instead more fascinated by the one that had outwitted him. The blockheaded boy couldn’t even handle a small girl….now that was embarrassing.

But, if he could have some fun...then at least it wouldn’t be a waste, not entirely. And only then would he have some food, only once his host was hungry enough to learn his fool lesson. He smirked, lazily glancing around as he gave a long stretch. So, then, she knew enough about...perhaps multiple personalities. The Sheut highly doubted that she knew what he was, not really. She was a mere human, after all. He tilted his head, eyes widening dramatically. ”Ahhh….different, you say….am I...not behaving as I was? Oh my….” He tapped the side of his head. ”Perhaps you’re right. Perhaps I am different...I wonder….”

He waited to see if she would answer, letting out a deflated sigh when he was refused - not to say that he was especially surprised. He sighed, reaching for an apple - fresh, all the sweeter to eat it from their ship. ”That’s a little boring….I thought you might be more interesting than that. Are you afraid?” He wondered if goading her would work; if she was cautious, then he imagined probably not. But, it was still worth it for the fun. ”I wonder...if I am not the boy from before….what do you suppose I am?”

Afraid? No, that was not the right word. Cautious was how Pippa would describe it. She recognized that she was in front of someone who was potentially dangerous. The boy she had spoken to before had not been normal. At first, she had thought him insane; he had certainly acted it. However, between the odd capabilities and his unusual behaviour she was sure that there was something else going on and that it couldn't be solved by a trip to a therapist. No doubt whoever or whatever she was speaking to was the reason.

"Clearly you are the bland one if you came up with such a cliché conclusion," she said smartly, "There is a difference between fear and caution. Only the foolish and desperate jump into a den of snakes willingly and thus far you seem as safe as one." She supposed that the brave might be an exception, but then what was to say that the brave were not foolish? The very meaning of bravery meant running towards danger or our fears.

Pippa had always been cautious, perhaps overly so. It was why stress and panic had always come to her easily. Goading her would not work easily, particularly when she had already been burned a few times by the very world she was trying to explore. "Someone who has a bit too much time on their hands if you need me telling you what you are," she said dryly, not even bothering to tell him what she thought.

Hum, the girl was cleverer than he had thought. For one so young, she was not so easy to sway...a shame, he would have liked to see her up closer, so that he might better absorb her expressions. It was never as fun watching in the background. But, she made a valid - and ironic - point. The Sheut gave an empty chuckle, tapping the side of his head again. ”You are quite right, aren’t you? Only the foolish and desperate...don’t the boys actions sound quite like that to you? He foolishly boarded a pirate ship, of all places, to bolster his pride...a place he cannot navigate. So he is punished.” The Sheut’s smile faded slightly, annoyance visible on his face as he gave a shrug.

Foolish and desperate….those were good words for his host.

But, ah, he had given up on pretense; she knew he was not the boy. But, she did not know exactly what, or whom, she faced. If she knew he was a servant of Duat, who punished the souls of crooked men, perhaps she would feel differently of him. But….she had become uninteresting. Not because she was clever or cautious, but because she refused to indulge him. He was a creature of games, and if she would not play….she was not a soul for him to claim, and so could not initiate Duat’s soul games with her.

He turned a toothy smile around the room, hoping to catch her gaze for at least a moment. ”Very well then. I suppose if I am so dull as you say, I will take my leave. But recognize, child, you stand in the glow of greatness.”

He would not allow his host to take control yet, not now. He gave a bow, stepping backward, melting into the shadows.
