Emily was getting anxious. Anxious and mad. Her father was up to something. Which was nothing new to anybody, especially her. But she had a sneaking feeling that, once again, her father was trying to bend their promise. His Nightmare Men had become active. That alone made her wary. He hadn't had access to them in at least a century, leaving him to wreak havoc with his Nightmares and Fearlings. There was also the children she heard he had under his wing and his recent interference with the survivors of the Golden Age that were here on her planet. Considering his past reasons for wanting to kidnap a survivor of the Golden Age, she didn't like it. She couldn't just go charging in though, claiming that he had done something to break their promise when all she really had was a feeling. She planned on talking to one of the children Pitch had the first chance she had but in the meantime, there was another victim she needed to talk to. Caspian.

Pitch had taken Caspian after one of the battles on Avalon and kept the Cancer trapped in his hole for months. Eventually, his friends went after him and rescued him. Emily Jane took no part in it even though she would admit that the man wasn't as terrible as the others that had made it to Earth. She had watched it carefully though. The rescue was too easy. It had gone too well. They had travelled into the heart of Pitch Black's liar to rescue Caspian. With the skills they had, they should have had much more trouble. And instead, they came out relatively unscratched. It was like her father had just let them take his prisoners. Emily kept an extra special eye on Caspian during his recovery. She sent him 'gifts' of sorts. Everyday while he was bedridden, she sent a butterfly to his window. Part of the reason for the butterfly was to give him something nice to look at, something he could watch while he was stuck in bed. The other reason was so that she could watch him. The butterflies kept a close eye on him, studied him, looking for anything out of the ordinary, anything concerning. At the end of the day, they would return to her and tell her everything they saw. The creatures of the night did the same as he slept. She continued to watch him as his recovery progressed, so when it was time for them to talk, all she had to do was go there.

Emily landed outside the building where Caspian stayed that morning. She made sure to stay close enough that he would have no trouble finding her, but far enough away that she was not visible from the house. The others who were in there had no reason to know she was here and she didn't want them to. With her was a butterfly. It was wrapped in warmth so that the cold winter air wouldn't harm it. Once she found a good spot to wait, she let it go. The insect flew to Caspian's window. From there, it would wait until he woke up before leading him back to Emily. All she had to do was wait.

Recovery had been.... slow at best. Still Caspian was getting used to leaving and wandering. He had spoken to Alhena and the Byakko- as strange as that was to him still. He had even visited Ninianne.... and slowly things seemed like they were on the repair.

He was speaking again... coming to terms with things- or trying to. He wondered if things would ever truly go back to normal. But the answer was clear- and it wasn't one he wished to confront.

Caspian had missed the strange butterflies appearing at his window despite the winter chill. And he knew who it was- Emily Jane. He had to be one of the few survivors who knew of her survival- and her role here on this world. He had.... forged a strange relationship with her and now he wasn't quite sure what to feel.

While she had no part in what happened, it was still her father who had done everything to him. It was still her father. They were still related. And Caspian honestly found it difficult to really move past that. Even though there was a voice deep within him telling him not to judge... he still felt like...he would.... he still was. It wasn't Emily Jane's fault- she had no part in what happened- that was clear.... He knew that....

But he still felt...like he had enough of the Pitchiner Family. But the butterflies still came and as he watched this particular one on this particular day, he noticed that it would seemingly fly in circles. Lifting up and gliding away before returning and waiting for a bit.

After some repetitions of this pattern, Caspian got the message. Pushing himself up from the bed he got a jacket to keep himself warm and walked outside. No one in the house would stop him, they had learned to leave Caspian mostly to himself. Which suited him fine- too many people was overwhelming to him.

Caspian followed the insect out and away from the house. He was curious on what Emily Jane would even want with him- and he wasn't exactly sure what he would do when he found out.

Emily Jane waited behind a small group of trees at the edge of the building's yard. From here she could watch her butterfly and the rest of the house without being seen. It took a little while for Caspian to make his way out of the house, which was to be expected. It wasn't as though she announced herself when she came to visit.

The butterfly reached her first, ducking around the trees to land on Emily's already open palm. Butterflies could be fairly quick, especially when all they wanted to do was get away from the cold snow a land animal had to slog through. Mother Nature thanked her insect quietly before letting it go. The bug immediately flew off in the direction of the closest cluster of trees. It knew a path was waiting for it to take it back to it's warm home and it couldn't wait to get back.

With that taken care of, Emily turned to Caspian. While he certainly didn't look the same as when Emily first met him, he did look better than he had a few months before. So that was something at least. Emily didn't feel the need to talk to him right away. She had something to show him and they could talk there, away from the house and any prying eyes that might be near it. So Emily Jane just waved for him to follow her and headed towards the forest where her butterfly had just disappeared into. She didn't check to make sure he was following, she just assumed he would.

Caspian watched as the butterfly flew towards Emily Jane. She looked about the same as when he last saw her and he wondered if she had stopped changing... he knew he had. Well until the whole recent events... he had definitely changed since then.

She said nothing to him, instead letting the butterfly fly away. And so he waited, perhaps she would address him, tell him of what she wanted. She wouldn't have come out all this way for nothing.

It was then, Emily Jane turned to look at him. And Caspian looked back, and so they sat in silence. He wasn't quite sure what to do. But there was nothing he really could do, nothing but wait that is...

She then waved for him to follow her and turned walking to the forest. That.... a frown appeared on his features and he took a small step backwards. He could potentially and possibly safely assume that Emily Jane was indeed herself- but he had no interest in following a Pitchiner into the forest alone, without anyone knowing where he had gone. It would send people near him into a frenzy.

And he had already caused enough trouble.

If Emily Jane wanted to speak to him in private, she could mention it and then they could agree upon where to go- together. Until then...Caspian knew he would not move from his spot.

Emily was about half way to the next block of trees when she stopped. Caspian wasn't following her. Why? That trick always worked with animals. And insects. And any of her weather phenomenon. They were so much easier than people. She turned around and looked him over, confused as to why he wasn't trailing after her.

"Why?" She asked. It was the easiest way to get information after all. And she could see no reason not to. After a second she added, "Are you cold?" She had seen him wearing jackets while in the snow the first time they'd met. And she knew that not everyone was as unaffected by the elements as she was. It would make sense if he had trouble with it. Which, if he did, she'd have to rethink a few things. While she hadn't really thought about it before, she did have to remind herself that he was not well. His appearance helped that plenty. If she did take him there, he could get a lot worse. Which was a problem to say the least.

Caspian looked back at Emily, he could see the confusion on her features, but he still did not move from his spot.

"...The cold is not what is troubling me." He said evenly, taking a breath to steady himself as it came out in small silvery wisps.

"Anything you have to say to me... you can say it here. I don't see why we must go somewhere- let alone a place I have no idea about."

The idea of being taken to a place he didn't know made his stomach drop... that made him feel colder than the temperature around him. He didn't want to leave here or a place he knew. So he hung back and refused to go further.

She tilted her head to the side. She just couldn't figure out why he was being so defensive. Others had talked with him. So what was the problem now?

"I want to show you something." There. Now he knew why she wanted him to follow him. Some of it. Emily had planned to question him about some things but she saw no reason to bring it up now. Especially with him acting to weird. What was so terrible that he wouldn't go with her? It wasn't like she was going to drop him in the ocean and to be frank, if she wanted to do him harm, she would have already done it.

Caspian couldn’t help the frown that appeared. His brow furrowed as he took yet another step backwards.

“I’m not going anywhere. I’m perfectly fine here thank you.” Caspian could feel a hard edge beginning to surface in his tone. He was now beginning to lose any guilt. Why was Emily Jane here? He wanted to know why... but not if it meant leaving the security of this area- near his friends and Paigen.

Her answer was brusque and very much alike with what he had gotten used to with her. But he also wasn't having it. Even if logic dictated that she wouldn't hurt him- he just didn't want to be taken away... there were so many repercussions in the back of his mind. Swirling around... providing reasons as to why he shouldn't move.

People would get worried.
People would get upset.
They could get compromised.
The place they were at could be revealed.

The list went on.

So Caspian held his ground.

Emily was actually frowning now. It was a small one but it was still a frown. He wasn't just acting weird, he almost sounded angry with her too. Which didn't make sense. She hadn't done anything wrong. Did the butterflies bother him or something?

"But I want to show you something." She was trying to do something nice. Did he not understand that? She rarely did anything that might be considered nice. At least in her mind. She wasn't good at it and she normally didn't even have anyone to be nice to. Sure she needed to ask him questions but that didn't mean she had to take the time to pick out something he might actually enjoy seeing.

Caspian stared at Emily as he noted her small frown. He…. hadn’t seen her really upset in a while but at this rate it didn’t really matter- did it? Caspian had things to do- things to adhere to. Not just for himself, but for others. This wasn’t just about him it was about more than that. And he had to stand his ground.

At her words he nodded a bit, acknowledging her point before continuing.

“I understand that and I thank you, but…. I think it would be best perhaps to stay in this area.”

Caspian wouldn’t budge on this- and he knew maybe he would have to cave a little bit- this was Emily Jane they were talking about… but he still didn’t feel like he could easily just walk away into what was pretty much the unknown.

"...Perhaps there is..... a type of agreement or compromise we could arrange... I just.... I need to know a bit more- or at least....alert the others."

He shifted a bit, turning his body back towards the quiet house, however his eyes didn't leave Emily Jane. Caspian waited for Emily Jane's reaction before making any move whatsoever.

Emily narrowed her eyes at him slightly, trying to figure out why he was acting the way he was. Maybe he was paranoid and this was just him being jumpy? She could hardly imagine why though. It wasn't as though anything would be dumb enough to attack him with her around. So that probably wasn't it. Maybe it was the others he was with who were paranoid. If they didn't know her, then maybe they couldn't tell that she wasn't bad. Especially since when people talked about her, they were usually talking about the more destructive things she caused.

"Where I want to take you is a surprise, but you will be safe." She added in the last bit so he could inform whoever was paranoid. "But, if you feel the need to let them know, I'll wait." In all honesty, she doubted they would be gone long enough for it to make much of a difference but if it made him feel better. And besides, she did need to talk to him. It was just a matter of how easy it would be.

In all honesty, Caspian hadn't expected Emily Jane to be alright with him going back to ask the others if it was ok for him to leave with her.

In all honesty, he wanted to just not leave. If she had anything to say to him... why could it not be said here.

His face betrayed his emotions. Sighing, Caspian rubbed the back of his neck. She wanted to take him somewhere... it'd be a surprise... and it'd be safe...

On one side, Caspian did want to see what on earth Emily Jane had planned. On the other he didn't want to leave the comfort of home. Sighing he looked back at her.

"...Is there any way you can tell me a little bit more information?"
He asked hesitantly.

Emily Jane still didn't understand the issue but if it would make him come, she would answer his questions. Mostly. "... It's cold. You'll like it." At least she was pretty sure he'd like it. She certainly had when she first saw it.

She was starting to get annoyed though. To a certain extent, she did have a schedule and they hadn't even left yet. She knew this was going to take a while but she thought they'd be a little further along by now. "Why don't you want to go with me?"

It's cold and he would like it.

...

How did Emily Jane ever think these were....actual answers was beyond him. But then again did he really expect to get answers from her? No...not really...and if he did he was a fool. Sighing deeply, Caspian frowned only to be taken aback by Emily's forward question.

Shifting a bit, Caspian averted his eyes and his hand came up to rub the back of his neck as he shrugged slightly, "It.....It isn't necessarily you...it.....it's just...."

How to phrase it....and phrase it in a way that didn't get her upset...

"...I just...get nervous at the thought of going too far away...from here."

His words seemed...so useless... he wasn't even sure if it was an acceptable answer. Surely didn't seem like it. Ugh he was a useless friend...and that was even if Emily Jane still considered him one.

Emily listened careful to his answer. "Oh." It didn't make sense. It was completely silly actually. But, people were silly. And irrational. And it seemed that Caspian was silly and irrational too. Not that that was much of a surprise. But whatever. If that was his concern, all she had to do was convince him there was nothing to worry about right?

"You don't need to be nervous. No one will bother you while I'm around." If he was concerned about someone coming after him again, that would never happen while she was around. Pitch wasn't stupid enough to try anything while she was there. Nor was anyone else. "If you want to tell someone you're going, I'll wait here for you." That should be enough to get him to come. Right?
