Toothiana did not often pass up a chance to visit Santoff Claussen even under the best of circumstances, not since she had returned to getting back out into the field. But tonight it seemed especially important that she make this trip in person. She had felt the wavering of innocence, that awful tremble she could sense in her very core when something happened that would cast a shadow over the joyful and encouraging moments that made up childhood memories. To some extent such moments always happened sooner or later, childhood was about learning and growing, about preparing to face the good and the bad of the world without losing ones inner light. But Toothiana only felt it when such things crossed a line, beyond a first lesson of loss or discovering that not everything could be trusted. And on Halloween that was exactly what had happened in what was supposed to be the Place of Dreams.

Toothiana and her fairies had been busier than usual after Pitch's strike during the Halloween season, sending out happy memories so that their light banish the lingering shadows of fear that scary movies and spooky stories had planted. It was like that every year but this was different. This year there had been something more, Tooth herself had fought off a beast alongside the Fairy Godmother and Sir Kay that had tried to snatch a little girl and she had soon learned of all sorts of other encounters across the globe. But perhaps one of the worst had been here in this place that was so dear to the Guardians' hearts. So when little Misty had lost one of her baby teeth she knew she had to come here herself and make sure the tooth was not just taken to be kept safe in Punjam Hy Loo but also to help ease the little girl's grief with dreams of happier times and the wonderful games they had played together. Misty herself had not been caught up in the heat of the attack but the whole village felt the terrible loss of life and the toll it had taken on the children that did survive.

Toothiana thought she might check in on some old friends here but her responsibility came first. So she flitted over the great forest and all the protections it held. Of course the magic that fueled those protections knew the Tooth Fairy as a friend and so offered her no resistance. She flitted through the crisp night air to Misty's home and quietly slipped through the bedroom window, considerately left unlatched thanks to the fact that Santoff Claussen was one of the few places left in the world where both adults and children knew about magic and immortals and were all familiar with most of the Guardians and what they did.

Inside the room she spotted Misty, dark locks of slightly unruly hair splayed around the pillow. The warm quilt rising and falling with the sleeping child's steady breaths. Toothiana carefully reached beneath the pillow swapping the tiny incisor for a coin. But instead of taking her leave right away she wrapped dainty fingers around the tooth where it lay nestled in her palm and held it over the girl's forehead. Closing her eyes she reached within for the power that her precious ruby box and its contents had given her, seeking out just the right memories to stir within the little girl's mind. She and the mini-fairies had been doing this with many of the teeth already in the Tooth Palace but this was Misty's first lost tooth. And she wanted to waste no time to help her remember the good as she struggled to come to terms with what had happened here in her home, the harsh and far too early lesson that not even Santoff Claussen was truly safe from the war. So she remained there, hovering beside the bed and holding the tooth to make sure that happy, and most importantly hopeful and comforting, memories filled her dreams tonight.

Since the attack at the edge of the forest, Katala had been antsy. The attack had been far too close to home for his liking. He understood that the people of Santoff Claussen were in mourning for those lost and scared of what the attack meant. He knew they were concerned and they had every right to be. However, his thoughts were on his home rather than theirs.

The Grove fell within the protective barrier that surrounded Santoff Claussen but otherwise, it was largely undefended. They had developed a few defenses over the years such as turret plants which could shoot special seeds at an enemy but now that just felt inadequate. Plants couldn't protect his home forever if they were attacked and with only the 12 of them, he was beginning to doubt that they could either. He shuttered to think what would happen if someone did manage to breach the warding at attack his home. And so, his studies shifted to defensive magic. He wasn't near on the same level as Ombric, North, or even Katherine but within the halls of the library, surely he could find something to keep his home safe.

The words in front of him began to blur together again. It was time to stop. Katala reached up and rubbed his eyes before glancing out the window. The light provided by the building always did a wonderful job of hiding what time it actually was outside. That was something he never had gotten used to over the years he had been visiting with the humans. And from the looks of things, it was much later than he'd initially thought. He stretched and grabbed a few books to take home with him. The librarian seemed to have run off somewhere but he doubted she wouldn't mind. Not here. And he always had made a point to keep them in good condition when he did borrow some. For now though, it was past time for him to return home. If he was lucky, he'd return before the dawn blooms rose.

With the books tucked safely in his bag, he left the library and started making his way towards the edge of town. And like always, the town was barren at this time of night, save for a cat or two exploring in the darkness. It was the stillness of the place that made it easier to notice something going on. He was rounding a corner when he saw it. Some sort of something, flying through the air. Katala quickly hid himself so it wouldn't see him, whatever it was. It was too dark for him to make out what it was, though he did catch a few details of it in the light from the moon. He watched as the thing disappeared into one of the houses.

Around here, he couldn't just assume that the thing was malicious and act accordingly. He'd already seen enough in this town to know that much. If it had managed to get through the barriers around Santoff Claussen unscratched, there was a good chance it was a good being. However, it could fly. That meant that it could have just flown over the thorns and gotten in that way. Either way, he wasn't sure and he didn't like it. However, he wasn't about to busting into someone's home when he didn't even know what was going on. Instead, he positioned himself close to the home the thing had disappeared into. He created a ball of light in his hand and waited. It wouldn't harm whatever he was after but it would show him exactly what it was. If it was peaceful, he could apologize and they could both get on with their night. And if not, the sword strapped to his hip would take care of any troubles the creature might bring. All he had to do was wait for the thing to emerge from inside.

It only took a few moments for a soft, contented look to come over Misty's features as she slept. Tooth gently brushed a lock of hair that had fallen across the girl's brow, gently enough that Misty hardly even stirred. Hopefully that would help her to get through the grief and fear from the attack. So with the baby tooth in hand she flitted away from the bed and back out the window to bring it back safely to the Tooth Palace.

However, just as she emerged from the window she noticed a light glowing down on the ground just below. In the light she could see a figure of what looked like a person only...different. Neither enchanted light nor magical beings were anything strange to the little secluded village but Toothiana could not recall seeing a person like this one before. Transluscent wings hummed in the night air as she slowly lowered herself nearer to the figure and Toothiana noted that the glow seemed to be coming from the stranger and in it's light she could make out what looked like leaves that seemed to be attached to the figure.

"Hello?" She said noticing that he too seemed to be studying her. She kept a cautious distance as she hovered in the air, having noticed the sword that hung on his side. She doubted a threat could have made it this far in undetected but...after an attack so near it was only natural for everyone to be a bit on edge.

Katala watched the thing dart out of the house. It moved a bit like a small bird or an insect. Which made sense since he could make out feathers and chitin wings. He just watched it for a long moment, trying to figure out what it was. He'd heard stories of flying creatures from the humans but this certainly didn't look like the dragons or pixies they'd described in their stories. Maybe a pixie. Except that he was under the impression that pixies were much smaller and wore flowers as clothing. It seemed that the flying thing had noticed him as well. It was time to get to the bottom of this.

When he threw the light, he didn't throw it at her per say. Rather, he threw it a few feet up into the air where it dispelled enough to light up the area around them. That way, he could see the creature and it could see him. And he had to admit, she was rather pretty. All right, very pretty. Still, he wasn't sure what exactly she was. He narrowed his eyes at her, trying to puzzle things out. There was one explanation. One that the humans of Santoff Claussen talked about often enough, though he'd never seen her himself. If this was her, she certainly wasn't what he was expecting. Still, it was worth a shot.

"Are you the Tooth Fairy?"
