NOTES:She curious

She’d lost her project; something that...while a shame, wasn’t any matter to cry over - no, she was a scientist, and scientists operated on progress and moving forward. Besides, it wasn’t as though it was completely out of her hands; Scorpius - Antares, as it was so intent on calling itself - was not quite out of the proverbial woods yet. She would need to locate it, but once found, there was a..well, “emergency shut-off” so to speak. It was a proximity alarm that she could activate - something she’d installed in case it was a failure and revolted against her. Now, it would serve a rather different purpose. But until that time….she had to occupy herself with new creatures. And one had come into her grasp.

A brand new specimen. A brand new species. Truth be told she was extremely curious; while she had met Nightmare Men before - was, in fact, rather companionable with the gentleman Virgo - she always found herself delighted to meet them. They were each unique creatures; Nightmare Folk were, after all, twisted shells of their former selves, and she liked to learn just how they were pieced together by their inner shadows. That another had come about to join them was exciting. The most difficult part, it seemed, was...trapping her quarry for conversation.

She hadn’t seen him yet - but from what she heard, that was because he didn’t much care to stop and chat with his new allies. Not much of a social creature - which was a shame. She wanted to converse with him. She’d heard tell - little whispers that made their way through the busying halls - that this one was a scientist himself. That was reason enough for her to plan to capture him in a dialogue. To ensnare him in a conversation.

She desperately wanted to talk to him, to a fellow scientist. What was his field of study? Where did he run experiments? What were the processes he ran through, how did he store his information? She...wanted to pick his brain, so to speak. But it had been difficult; any time she’d heard whisper that the Nightmare Man was around she’d always come to an empty space - he was elusive, this one, good at hiding in shadows and making himself unnoticed. But….it was only a matter of time, of learning his patterns, of adapting. That was the most important part, after all; adapting.

She was sure that she’d get him this time. The sound of receding footsteps told her enough - that he was near. That he hadn’t quite managed to escape just yet. She was close to acquiring her target.

”Pardon me….” Her voice came out louder - loud enough to carry. She quickened her own pace, footsteps echoing as she made her approach. ”I’ve been meaning to get in contact with you for a while. My name is Verelinne rosa Tiberius, biotechnology specialist. Might I borrow a moment of your time?”

Of course, there wasn’t a choice in it. She would have a moment, no matter his response.

Taer had been busy since he'd come back. He couldn't start his work completely yet, he still needed a proper workspace and everything that came along with it, but he'd found other things to do instead. He'd spent the last while in the dark corners of libraries, searchin for information. The only time he'd come back to the labyrinth was to drop off a particularly useful book or to stash something he thought might be useful later. Between the hours readin, plannin, he didn't really have time to talk to his new coworkers. He didn't really want to either. As far as he was concerned, they didn't need them. The creatures from this planet. If they wanted to conquer it, if Pitch really had any interest in claiming this planet as their own, all they needed to do was start makin more Nightmare Men. Not loads. Just enough to overwhelm and destroy the opposition. And instead he was spendin his time playin buddy buddy with whatever trash he found here and lettin himself get walked all over by some 'guardians'. But hey, Taer weren't in charge. He was just the new healer. He was here to make sure Pitch's new toys didn't get too broken along the way. Just meant that when Pitch did lose, when all this came crashin down around their heads, it weren't his fault. He just wanted to do his work and keep away from the freaks hidin in the tunnels.

So when someone gave him a heads up that someone was lookin for him, he didn't actually bother stoppin and tryin to find out who it was. It wasn't Pitch. He knew that much. And since it wasn't Pitch, he didn't care who it was. He didn't try avoidin them though. He had better things to do than to put actual effort into ignoring people. So he just went about his days as usual. Let them try to catch him durin the short time he was in the labyrinth before he headed out to a new library or bookstore. Course, since he wasn't tryin, it was only a matter of time before they actually did catch up.

Taer was actually on his way out again. He had finally decided where he was gonna start his search for workable ingredients and was on his way with a nice big bag full of supplies. He was jottin down notes in both his own journal and a pocket atlas when someone said somethin behind him. Taer stopped and turned to look her over.

She weren't exactly excitin. Not my his standards at least. It was her name that made him slightly interested. So this was the Tiberius chick Pitch had told him about. Taer didn't bother smilin at her. He just shoved both his books into the pocket of his hoodie and turned to face her head on so they could have a decent conversation.

"What do you want?" That was his only guess as to why she'd stopped him. Why she'd been lookin for him in the first place too. She wanted somethin from him. That was the only reason anyone talked to anyone wasn't it?

NOTES: She curious

She was not among the Nightmare Folk herself, those that were turned - made into dark shadows of what they once were. She had been that way from the beginning, something perhaps not quite right about her biological code, the part of her that was supposed to hold morals dear to heart. That had never been there, but then, she personally thought that she was the one made right, and any other ‘scientist’ who claimed her or himself to be one was being held back. So when she had encountered the Nightmare King, he could easily have chosen to make her like them, like those dark men who served him, but it hadn’t been necessary. She was more than willing to serve him without it. So long as she was allowed to continue her work.

She was quite curious of them though. She sometimes held this itch - one she knew she wasn’t allowed to scratch, of course, but she had it nonetheless - a want to peel open one of those Nightmare Men to take a closer look at them. Surely they operated differently than when they had been living star-folk, untarnished by shadows? What differences were there? Perhaps they perceived light differently, nourished themselves in a different manner, did their blood still flow? She really did want to dissect one of them, but that would perhaps have to wait until one died. It was just a shame she couldn’t properly examine the living ones. But maybe if she asked and a medical examination was allowed...no prodding, no poking around inside, just a superficial one...she could at least collect some data.

For now she was delighted enough just to speak to them. The one she had met first, mister Desmond Virgo, had been a fine conversationalist. This one seemed more elusive, less likely to want to chat. But..then, Verelinne was not usually one to play to the whims of others unless it was a direct order from her superiors. If she wanted to chat with a gentleman, then she certainly would have him in her presence eventually. And certainly, this would help to fill the lonely void of a lost prize. Though, she was working on other projects, other fun things. Hopefully by the time it was back in her possession, she’d have come up with a method to completely erase the original memories. Implanting new ones was easy, but the old ones...they were still a part of it, and so long as they existed they could be brought back. Erasing them, that was the important part. Permanent memory erasure was her current project.

The Nightmare Man in front of her looked hopelessly disinterested. Not that she could blame him; she was, after all, a simple creature; organics were dull by nature, there was nothing particularly fascinating about them. She was no exception. Her lips turned up at his crude response, and she drew her fingers idly through her hair. He was a very interesting specimen. ”Only a conversation, if you’ll have me.” He would. ”I’d heard about your arrival. There’s quite the buzz about a...potion-maker? I’ve been dying to meet the man who dabbles in those sciences.” She noted the books that he had tucked under his arm and quirked a brow. ”If you were hoping to study over notes, I’d be more than happy to move this conversation so you can work and chat at once. I have some of my own work I can dabble at in a conversational setting.”

Taer narrowed his eyes, givin her a scrutinizin look. Just a conversation huh? Knowin the kind of creatures lurkin down here in the tunnels, he weren't too sure how genuine that statement was. People always wanted somethin and he had a feelin she wanted more than just a conversation. Specially since she wasn't catchin on that he wasn't exactly interested in whatever she was sellin. Still, this was the only other scientist that he knew of. He didn't exactly see himself as a scientist of course. What he did was somethin different. But they did tend to use similar gear so if he could cozy up to this lady and maybe make off with some of hers, only borrow it, then he guessed he could put up with her.

"I don't work and talk at the same time." That wasn't much of a rule of his, he just wasn't good. He had a tendency to hyper focus on his work and forget about those around him. He only ever had about 10 good minutes of talkin in him while he was workin before he forgot the rest of the galaxy existed.

"Wouldn't mind seein your set up though. I hear you work off your ship?" There. He threw her a bone. Now she couldn't say he'd been completely standoffish. Not a bundle of fuzzies and hugs but he wasn't just flat out sayin no either. And if he could work it so she was doin all the talkin, he had no problems with entertainin her.

NOTES: Let's chat

Mmmm, talking and working was one thing that Tiberius had rather become quite efficient at. Both out of necessity - with nosy, pesky Nightmare Men like dear Virgo wandering in from time to time to see her at her task, she’d had to adapt very quickly to surprise visits. Of course, even before then, she’d had to handle multitasking - she had, after all, needed to bark orders to underlings back in her time on Scorpio, before she was incarcerated. That, and of course, her own nature demanded that she be able to talk and work well at once; she was a social creature by nature, relying heavily on casual conversation to keep herself entertained. If she wasn’t talking, then everything became painfully dull. Repetitive, boring, she simply liked to have company. Even if that company was her subject, she still liked to speak to them, too.

”It’s a useful skill to have, you’ll find. Particularly here.” She smirked, letting a hand come up to brush through her hair almost lazily. ”There are some rather curious folk who like to visit at their own risk of limb. They make good company if you know how to handle them. And if they can’t handle themselves…” Her lips curved upward. ”I suppose they could be put to other uses.” She would allow him to infer whatever he so chose from those words; after all, for him, and for his craft, there were likely very different applications that organic matter could serve; for her own part she knew very well how she could use…the more unfortunate among her gawkers - but of course, she would probably have to beg permission. Even if they entered to her laboratory of their own volition, she couldn’t simply take a body, could she? That, too, was a shame.

Ah, but she was delighted now~. It seemed her current companion was interested enough to see her...ah, her little abode. It was….a little more drab than she’d like, given that the...crash had put some of her systems out of order. But, she also knew she couldn’t complain; Earth had gotten better with its technologies of late - she’d been able to work rather well lately with what their precious brains concocted, repairing some of what had been broken to...at least a functional degree; but there had been a rather sad and dark era before then, like working with the most primitive of elements in the stone ages. It was good to see them pushing forward, progressing, if only for her own benefit.

”I do. Please, I’ll escort you there now, if you’d like.” There was an almost wistful look about her as she smiled more to...herself than to him. ”Of course, I can’t claim it all as my own; between a rather ugly landing and the replacement parts taken from Earth the ship itself has undergone a fair few modifications. But, what needs to function for me to operate under our dear King is operational.” She was quite sure he didn’t much care, but...he also didn’t seem to be especially interested in talking to her, given that she’d had to track him down. She was more than happy to speak to a faceless doll if that was what he would like to be. ”It’s not far. A decent stroll away, I would say, from this route.” Ah, the labyrinth could be a blessing or a curse, depending on where one needed to be. It was aptly named after all, it could be something of a maze.
