checkmate!

The world around Vlad began to unravel. It was with a detached demeanour that he watched it become something out of a proper nightmare. There was no surprise to be found nor would there ever be even if one was capable of delving into the roots of his mind. The half-ghost might technically still be mortal, but he held far more experience with the magical world than most humans could dream of.

Besides, it had taken a glance for him to presume that his surroundings were likely some sort of illusion. They were too off, nothing like the eccentric and odd home that Daniel had once lived within while his family had been alive and he had lived in Amity Park. That it looked unpleasant to the eye was merely an irony to him. He might have compared the reveal to the true nature of the Other Mother finally being shown. The curtain slowly being swept away to show what was behind it.

The snakes never met their target, going straight through the elderly man instead and becoming entangled in each other. Taking upon the role of a dark gardener, he allowed pink energy to dance on his fingertips before shooting out a small ray of energy, shearing the snakes as if they were weeds. Shedding the intangibility, he continued on, creating a path from decay. "How uncivilized," he said, though a hint of dark humour could be found in his voice.

Vlad paid little attention to his surroundings outside of whether anything was attempting to attack him. He would know when he was near Daniel. If there was one thing the boy could not do it was hide from him. Their biology would simply not allow for it.

the proudest spirit can be broken by love
His head was clouded by whatever it was he’d eaten or drunk last. The food in this place was delicious...beyond delicious, it tasted far better than anything he’d ever eaten at home, if “home” was really the right word for that place when it seemed like his Godfather always had something better to do - though he’d never minded that. Here, though, he had his mom and dad back. It could be whatever he wanted it to - and for a while that was thrilling. But when the buttons were offered….

The time-out she’d given him didn’t last long; he didn’t especially want to be left in that place, so had phased through the walls and found himself...here. But that was when the cloud filled his mind. It was like something was filling it, making his brain fuzzy. “Leave” - that was the only word he could think right now. He wanted to leave. But how? Where? Around him everything was turning into a horrific haunted house side attraction, nothing at all like what he had first seen here, a world of wonders.

But he wasn’t alone. He could feel something - something that he recognized, but his cottonballed brain didn’t quite piece together. He knew that there was someone here….someone he knew….but felt no particular fondness toward. He looked skyward, frowning at the moon as the shadow of a large sewing button covered over the beautiful shape. ”....Who’s there. I know you’re there….” His voice was scratchy, he needed water…

Little did they know, but the button-moon served as another set of eyes for the Other Mother to watch through. And watch them she did. It was rather troublesome that her defenses phased through the man….but perhaps if she watched him she could find weaknesses. He was no less mortal than anyone else after all...

checkmate!

Vlad's patience was a fickle thing. It was often easy to keep in situations that benefited him; however, when things became difficult and stressful he found it easy to lose. At the moment, he found it quickly drifting away. While he did not particularly care about the time limit that the Other Mother thought she could set upon him, he did believe he did not have time to waste in endlessly searching for Daniel. He had no idea what his godson's situation was like and he would hardly put it past the woman to have done something to him. For all her claims to be his better mother, Vlad was highly aware of what Daniel's mother had been like and knew that no one could match the love that woman had held for her son. Anyone who thought they could was not only arrogant and foolish but clearly knew nothing about Maddie Fenton.

Scowling, the man sighed. Deciding that it would be best to not deal with the plants around him at all than hack through them like a gardener, he quickly shifted. A ring of light surrounded him by the middle before splitting, one going upwards and the other heading downwards. In the place of the middle aged man stood a very different individual. At a glance, it was difficult to place exactly what he was. After all, the man held a blue tint to his skin that gave off the impression that he might of died from particularly terrible causes. However, his appearance was also heavily reminiscent of a classical vampire right down to the point of his teeth.

An irony considering the man was named Vladimir.

Levitating, the man quickly flew through the air. Not wishing to waste energy on getting through the chaos around him, he chose to become intangible, easily moving through plants as they made to grab and attack him. As he continued, his eyes narrowed into slits as light frost emitted from his mouth, alerting him to the other half-ghost's presence.

Carefully, he landed in the quickly withering remnants of the illusion that had been Amity Park. Gaze briefly moving around, he quickly set out in finding the youth.

the proudest spirit can be broken by love
Through the opening eye of the moon, the Other Mother watched. She could see both child and ….ah, should she call him “father”? No, he wasn’t even that. He was a false[/] father, in the end. But….as she watched him….what once had been an old man - an old man with, admittedly, ethereal qualities - had suddenly changed. The Other Mother quirked a brow, stiffening slightly. Of all the nerve….hiding such a disguise of power behind the appearance of a bumbling fool….

...No, it was clever. [i]He
was - though she was loathed to admit it - clever. Intelligent enough to hide his power...rather than barge in using it….had she known ahead of time, had he charged in with those powers, she might have spun a web that could contain him; as it was, her web was built only for mortal men. This was….an individual that she would, in this case, have to concede was a resourceful man, even if he held no manners as a guest.

Which too was ironic, given his vampiric appearance.

How, she wondered, was it that she had managed to entrap the child of a vampiric family….theirs were usually so easy to spot. Something was not quite right….no, he was no ordinary Vampire at all. But no matter….Vampires had their weaknesses. She could still contain these two.
He was so tired….but he didn’t want to sleep. If he slept, dreams of those buttons would come to mind. But awake like this….the world had started to turn into a Hellish vision of what once had been such a dear place to him. Whatever she’d given him….he was starting to get an idea….drowsiness….sluggishness….she was trying to keep him under….but was it some kind of a sedative or something else? It could be….he wasn’t fully human, she probably...hadn’t accounted for that...but even if he could resist it, everything inside….his head, it was cloudy...couldn’t think. Couldn’t really….do anything….trying to keep himself awake was the best...the only thing.

But he wasn’t alone. He knew that….he could see it...see…him, coming. In his addled brain he recognized that face...but he couldn’t place a name. He didn’t get any sort of warm feeling seeing him...but he also...he didn’t have buttons for eyes. He was the first and only one beyond the cat. Which meant….

”We need to leave.” he blurted, or he thought he spoke, his head was pounding and his ears were ringing. The moon was already so dark…

checkmate!

It was clear that Daniel could sense him, perhaps even noticed the faint traces that could not be hidden even with intangibility. Of course, the latter was hard to tell though. Coming up close, he could tell that something was off with the boy. He appeared to be sluggish and there was a dilated look to his eyes. From the looks of it, the boy had been drugged. Unfortunately, this was not entirely surprising. The boy always had been a touch too trusting once his trust had been gathered.

Appearing just a few feet in front of the youth, he crossed his arms. "We do," he agreed. Unfortunately, he knew that what he was going to say would probably start a fight. It was inevitable. Daniel did not possess much foresight. How could he? At the end of the day, he was a teenager. Vlad, on the other hand, was a great deal older and knew from experience that they could not simply leave. If they wanted to leave then they had to at least figure out what the youth had consumed. He cared little about finding an antidote. lad could make that if he had to. He was no common mongrel when it came to science after all. "We need to find what you consumed first though, Little Badger. While I doubt what you consumed will kill you, I would prefer to have you whole and healthy, something of which I imagine even you can agree upon."

Maybe. The boy had agreed to stay a few days with some mangled copy of his mother. He could hardly say with complete confidence as to what the young man's mental state was like. One thing was certain though: the two would need to have a talk when they got home. Ignoring Daniel out of the belief he needed space had been a clear mistake.

“Prefer” to be whole and healthy….

Wow. What a nice way to put it.

Daniel gave him a look, but he was too tired to make any real biting remarks. He wanted to say something, but he also just wanted to leave. He knew better than to argue against this even if he thought it was stupid. He’d be fine. He was making a big deal out of nothing when they could just leave and figure out whatever it was after. But of course, it had to be his way. Whatever. Still, he wasn’t letting it go without a little argument, because this was just…stupid. If he hadn’t said it like that then maybe...but the way he was talking….

”You wouldn’t have noticed if I was healthy back home anyway. When did you start caring? Or am I just useful.” His tone was bitter, and he didn’t move to approach the other half-ghost. He could do that himself. ”It was with something I ate. Don’t know. Can’t it wait…” He had chills, honestly he just wanted to leave. Something felt wrong, about this place as a whole. He knew that if they didn’t hurry...something was going to happen. He didn’t know what, though. Just that it wasn’t good.

checkmate!

This was how things always went, how they had been going. In retrospect, a great deal of it was his own fault and Vlad was only beginning to see that now. As a man of great pride it was difficult to admit. However, he had been alone for a long time and he knew that he had never been a good man despite the tender raising of his parents. Though he could admit it, could rub it in Daniel's face and tell him how what innocence he had once possessed had been ruined by the carelessness of his late parents, he held his tongue. Vlad was not a good man, but he was also not a cruel one though he doubted the boy would believe it within this moment. He understood the pain that his godson felt and he would not make it worse.

Withholding a sigh, he planted his feet to the ground, arms crossed. It was not hard to guess what fuelled the harsh words that had been aimed had him. The youth often forgot how intelligent and perceptive Vlad was, something which was no doubt gained due to supposed victories that had been gained more due to triumphs that had come out taking advantage of the serious flaws in Vladimir's character.

That, and Vlad had never had never been one to fight against his godson with everything he had. After all, he had always wanted Daniel as a son, a feeling that had run him to the edge of desperation. He was hesitant to truly hurt the boy.

"I have noticed you have been unwell for days," he said bluntly, never one to allow the boy to entertain fantasies that were harmful in nature. If the boy's ideas about how he had been treated in the last few weeks were anything, it was harmful. "Clearly ignoring you out of the belief that you needed space was a foolish idea considering where it led you." He kept his tongue, unwilling to claw at a wound and point out that his parents must of at least taught him to at least not follow strangers. He doubted Daniel would react well; he always been protective of his parents despite how questionable their parenting skills had been. What the boy called eccentric Vladimir called dangerous...or he had in regards to his father. He had always been a bit biased in regards to Daniel's mother, never willing to admit that Maddie Fenton could be just as bad as her husband at times.

He sighed. "It might shock you, Daniel," he said crisply, "But I hardly agreed to take you in because I think you are useful. I cared a long time ago." The admittance that it had not been in the best way was left unsaid, being something that was simply difficult for Vlad to admit. He had simply never been difficult with feelings, having long ago come to dislike most people. "Though you might have been happy living with the fact that you are unique, I was not."

It was a truth. The Beldam was unlikely to realize what Vlad and Daniel were, having already made an incorrect guess, simply because they were something that should theoretically not exist. They were a creature of pure theory and, to their knowledge, the only two- three, as Daniel knew but vlad did not- in existence. Vlad had never been willing to allow Daniel to grow into his powers as the elder half-ghost had, forced to guess and fumble along the way. Instead, he had wanted to teach him. However, the grudge Vlad held against Daniel's father had created a rift and Daniel had become adamant that he could do it on his own, allowing himself to be alone...far more alone than he had considered considering his parents had never given proof that they would have accepted what Daniel was had they ever known what he was.

It was only now that Vlad realized the mistake that he had personally made.

He had to stop from snapping at the boy. Daniel is a teenager, barely fifteen he thought. It was natural that the boy didn't realize that there might be some severity in waiting. So, he attempted to grasp for patience- an action that was completely out of character for it. "No," he said seriously, "Neither of us know what she gave you and considering we are clearly not in Wisconsin any longer, for all I know taking you back without even an idea of what you were slipped might end up with you unconscious or worse." He shot him a severe look. Daniel was not stupid despite how careless the boy could act. He knew this quite well. "I am quite sure you do not enjoy taking unknown toxins, Daniel. You are not stupid."
