BEING PREGNANT SUCKS WHEN YOU CRAVE CHEEZ-WHIZ AND BACON
A sweeter life...
I miss the conversation I’m searching for a song tonight I’m changing all of the stations
The bright giggles of the little girl filled the living room, as Edward continued to speak to her with his funny little Scottish accent. She was practically tickled pink, as she shook her head quickly with the offer of attempting to do one. Ianthe was very, very sure she couldn't do one at all!
A triumphant smile pulled at West's lips as she let her gaze shift towards Edward. Ha, she hadn't done a British accent in a long time. But thankfully, she wasn't that rusty to sound like a complete dingbat.

"My grandparents were both from England, I grew up listening to them with their cute little accents." A little shrug, as she grinned while Ianthe clamored into her lap. She was getting pretty big, but luckily she still fit-......ish. They made it work. "My entire family could probably fake being full-on British if we tried hard enough-....except Mom, she's pretty bad at it."

Quickly, they'd moved onto watching the movie once more. With West braiding Ianthe's hair, the young woman snorted at Edward's comment about the Tramp's "special tattoo." Right, nice save once again.
"Oh yeah, defi-" West began, before the soft, high-pitched voice of Ianthe cut her off.

"Why would he have a cool tattoo if his name is Tramp?" West's eye's widened, as she sent a side-glance over to Edward. Right, no uh-....freaking out, just explain in the most child-appropriate manner. You've got this Westie.
"Sometimes people with special names get tattoos so they seem really cool." She explained as smoothly as she could, looking over at Edward with a quick raise of her eyebrows. If he wanted to add in something, just to help drive the point across, that was fine with her. "Okay?"

"Okay." Ianthe replied, her attention returned to the movie once again. The young woman had to stifle a sigh of relief, as she finished up braiding one side of her pigtail braids.

The movie quickly led on once again, and West found her eyes shifting back over to Edward as he commented, and then directed a question towards her. Would she have treated a dog that way, once Ianthe had come into the world?
"Heavens no. A dog is family too, I wouldn't treat them worse just because I got knock-...just because a baby is a new addition to the family." A small shrug followed, as she worked on the other part of Ianthe's pigtails. The little girl was currently bouncing in her seat, yet her attention span was still held by the movie, thankfully enough.

A soft laugh left her at the next scene, where she quickly finished up braiding Ianthe's hair. Gently patting her on the head once, the little girl promptly jumped up to her feet. Only stumbling slightly, West's mom reflexes kicked into gear as she grabbed her arm gently to steady her.
"Careful, squirt." She said, her voice firm yet caring, as the little girl nodded. Letting go of her, Ianthe promptly skipped back to her bear and her blanket upon the floor, sitting down once more.

West couldn't help her next soft laugh, as Edward sent another question her way complete with eyebrow movement. It had been awhile since anybody had asked what her pregnancy had been like, especially the cravings she had for food. That had been awful.

"Nah, it was more like..." West thought back then, to what she had practically searched high and low for at the grocery store during that time. Her mom always offered to get her food too, she was such a saint. "I had really strong craving for grapes, dark chocolate, salty foods, lots of meat stuff too like-....bacon, and what not. Also cheese, so much cheese." West smiled fondly then, taking a sip of water as she recalled a memory.
"I think the lowest I sank was when my mom found me sitting on the kitchen floor, 8 months pregnant and bawling my eyes out, while spraying Cheez-Whiz on a whole pack of cooked bacon." West winced slightly, turning a bit green for a moment until she took another sip of water. "I can't look at the stuff now without feeling nauseous."

The movie went on then, with the baby boy being born and the ensuing surprise song that Lady sang as she went to go look at the baby.
Honestly, West thought the whole thing was pretty adorable, being able to see the (albeit fictional) perspective of a dog discovering the new member of the family.

On a side-note, West really did hope Edward was enjoying the movie. But so far, everything seemed to going great.

What the heck feels why?

Brits, eh? Etheridge was a pretty British name, he had to admit. He smirked at that, the idea of them….like….sneaking across the border or some shit pretending to be locals. Like in a spy movie or something. West with those thick spy glasses and black leather….yeah, he could dig it. He gave a shrug of his shoulders. ”Nothing special here. Born and bred in the States, though my dad’s side has like Italian roots. Delano, and all that. It’s funny whenever I see a Delano’s Pizza. Makes me snicker.”

Uh…but….fucking lord he had to put a lid on it. He sincerely….jesus, he hadn’t had a small child around in so long that he forgot filtering was important. Especially for shit like tramp stamps. In no way did Ianthe need to know what that was about. He bit down as West started trying to explain it for the poor girl. Special tattoos…to look cooler. ”Oh, yeah! Like, it’s…a fashion statement, kind of a phase that some people go through. Gotta look the most unique possible!” He had to shut himself up there before he tried to bullshit an example, because he was about to use himself and even implying that he got a tramp stamp at any point – even for the sake of an innocent explanation to a child – would probably make him want to throw up in his mouth.

Okay. Crisis averted.

Her answer about treating a puppy made Edward smile though. Working with animals all the time, he kinda…got to see the good owners and the fucked up ones. Being neglectful towards a puppy because you were having a kid wasn’t fair to the animal; he considered it human irresponsibility – if you’re not willing to care for both, then don’t have one or the other. His eyes drifted from the movie back down to Ianthe and the hair braiding. She was honestly such a cutie. Ed sort of….wanted to hold her, but he knew that probably wasn’t appropriate just yet.

Okay but he was really, genuinely, hugely invested in knowing what the cravings were like. He had to know. Was it different for everyone? Probably. What was West’s like? Grapes wasn’t so bad….not the most expensive shit out there. Dark chocolate….well people craved chocolate in general. But the cheese one made him laugh. He could just imagine it. West, bedraggled hair and overstretched clothes, sitting on the floor with a dazed look and tears all streaking her face with a plate of the cheesiest bacon. Good fucking god.

”That sounds like an absolute nightmare…” And for once, it wasn’t in a jokesy tone; he was actually being sympathetic. Like, fuck, that couldn’t have been fun at all.

He snorted as the father basically ran around screaming about his new kid. And kinda….felt a little jipped honestly, like…that had never been a part of it for him. Just, bam, here’s a baby, it’s yours now bye. Seeing it like that was kinda nice. He leaned into West a little, barely even aware he was doing it. ”Must be nice to see your kid get born like that. A real…everyday miracle.”

Ianthe’s father probably wasn’t there for her when it happened. They’d both missed out on that scene.

ummMMMM they're sort of cuddling?????? how fricken cute is that?????????
A sweeter life...
I miss the conversation I’m searching for a song tonight I’m changing all of the stations
West really did have to hand it to him, Edward was good with handling the whole....'tramp-stamp' debacle.
She really wasn't mad, nah, not at all. It was actually starting to appear a bit more funny than nerve-wracking, considering the fact that Ianthe was practically eating up the words that were spilling from both of their mouths.
They were out of the woods by now, until Ianthe turned her attention back from the movie to look up at her mother with a bright, toothy smile.

"You have a special tattoo too, mommy!" Ianthe chimed, moving to point with her finger up at West, hugging her bear to her chest with the other free arm. "The little planet on your back."
Ah, fuck. She had forgotten all about that! God dammit!

An embarrassed smile pulled at her lips, as Ianthe promptly lost interest and turned back to watch the movie. Gaze flicking over to Edward, she was quietly wondering if he wanted an explanation. She definitely liked to forget that she got it. At least it was pretty classy, for one.

After that, the conversation and movie quickly led on. From the talk of treating animals, and then on to cravings, West found herself relaxing back onto the couch once more. Finally finishing off her water, she grinned after recalling the story of her horrible and nauseating bacon and cheez-whiz adventure.
The memories weren't exactly pleasant, but it was nice to be able to talk about that time with somebody else. She really did appreciate the sympathy from Ed, as she grinned and ran a hand through the locks of her hair.

"Oh yeah, it was. I'm glad that time is over." West had nearly driven her family crazy with her food cravings, and mood swings. But they all coped the best they could, and were there for each other in the end. Brooklyn was even the true MVP when he got her those two packs of double stuffed Oreos and three cans of cheez-whiz for her at 3 am.
Attention turning back to the movie, a hint of nostalgia ran through her as she watched the scene. She felt the lean against her shoulder, and her head tilted to gently rest upon his shoulder, automatically. Even West didn't realize what she was doing.

West hadn't even been totally alone, even when Ianthe's father didn't show for the birth. She didn't expect him to, of course, the young woman hadn't even told him where she lived in the first place. But, more on that later...
Her family had been there, all anxiety and nerves. Eusten had definitely started crying at one point, worried out of his mind for his little sister. Even some of her uncles had showed up, the ones that could, that is.

"Mhm..." West hummed in agreement, glancing up at Edward out of the corner of her eye. West hadn't even asked about Carter's mother before. In fact, she didn't even have a clue who she was in the first place.
But, she figured that was a sensitive topic - one Edward had to approach her with it first, when he felt the most comfortable. Prying would just be a major douche move to pull.

The movie led on, with the arrival of Aunt Sarah and the Siamese cats from hell. West always hated this part of the movie, that Aunt character was such a bitch to Lady.
Idly, West reached over to the popcorn bowl, promptly stuffing a handful into her mouth as she quietly watched the film play on.

"Ugh, I hate this character." Voicing her opinion out loud with a mutter, after she was done chewing and swallowing, the young woman visibly cringed for added humor.
Ianthe merely giggled, glancing back at her mother before hugging her bear close and eating her applesauce with her free hand. She always found her mom's reactions to movies really funny in general.

Ed no bad stop

Everything was in the clear. Everything was good. It was fine! Excellent even. One could argue that the scenario was, in fact, splendid. As much as it could be anyway, considering. The little angel believed both him and West…yeah, good…believe the nice smart adults…haaaaa. Thank shit, he was afraid he’d busted her innocence a little. He was going to need to filter himself now, seriously. That or West was going to muzzle him. Maybe literally. Except that was a little kinky and not kid-safe at all so probably not.

Head out of the gutter, dumbass.

Oh but then. Then, it got rich. Damn like…Ianthe meant nothing by it of course but…in that moment…she just….what she said….

Oh, no, mommy dearest. Ratted out by her little angel.

”Your mommy is really out of this world, isn’t she.” he chirped, catching her side-eye and meeting it with a smirk and some wagging eyebrows. But, he was playing it subtle for Ianthe’s sake – and because honestly kids did stupid shit, she probably got it a while ago, before Ianthe came around. He wasn’t gonna judge too harshly. …..But seriously, why a planet, though? What an odd choice. Wasn’t it usually like…a heart, or a skull, or a rose or some shit? Not that…he actually had any expertise in it. So.

He found himself sympathizing with the poor woman over that…low phase during her pregnancy though. For one thing, she’d still been young to have a kid, yeah? Like twenty….twenty-one….ish, in that ballpark kinda area. She was barely an adult, and suddenly she was by herself…growing a little human inside her. That was already a horrifying thought, and had to take a shitload of balls to go through with. Like he had to give serious kudos. Ed at 21? If he’d been a woman? Nope. No way he would’ve been able to go through with it. West was a strong woman even if she may not necessarily think so, and even if she made some stupid decisions. Who didn’t, in thee nd?

At least it gave him sort of a…better idea as to what sort of person he wanted to be as an adult. He didn’t want to be like his own father, or West’s boyfriend. Ex. Ex boyfriend. He wanted to be the-

Whoa sudden head on the shoulder. But….it felt really nice.

Comforting.

He loved Carter. He really…loved his son so much, but he wanted to imagine something especially sweet…being there while his beautiful boy was born. He didn’t have to be his biological father, but if he could’ve seen him when he was first born…that was….beautiful.

He found himself reaching, as though to touch her shoulder, rub circles in it but that….that was probably too much. Slow it on down, hot stuff. He eased back, though let his arm relax behind her on the sofa. Yeah that was okay. There were these….cats…what the fuck man. What was wrong with these little shits? He opened his mouth-

-oh. West said it first. Ha.

”Does Disney just like to make us think cats are evil or what?” he asked, though….it was his first Disney movie. Maybe there was another one called Kitty and the…uh…Alley Cat didn’t have as much of a nice ring to it. So maybe not. He reached out for his own handful of popcorn, his other hand reaching out absently to ruffle Ianthe’s hair.

The next scene was…..also kinda shitty. The poor dog got muzzled because of those dickweed cats and then she was running away scared. Like no fucking wonder, this woman was a really shitty bitch to treat Lady like that. ”My god, this dog is going through hell right now.” he muttered, watching the surprisingly sympathetic cartoon animal run through alleyways being chased by….wild dogs. Shit, jeez. ”....Holy teeth, batman.” he muttered. Say what he would about the movie the animators did a great job emphasizing the “scary” people from the “cute” people. Dogs. And then there in the middle of it was-

”.....Holy crap. That’s...violent?” He blinked a couple times, and even found himself….wincing. It was weird, he was sorta imposing himself into that situation. He was Tramp here. And shit that would hurt. ”He’d better be getting some after this. Seriously.”

A sweeter life...
I miss the conversation I’m searching for a song tonight I’m changing all of the stations
A soft scoff left her, barely audible enough for the four year old to notice it as West gently thumped Ed on the shoulder with her fist. Jesus, she was probably going to tell him about it sometime, not like it even mattered. The suggestive eyebrow movement did cause some color to appear on her cheeks, and now she looked like a blushing idiot to make matters even worse.

Right, just move on. She'd explain the story behind it later. Actually....thinking about it now, there wasn't any deep meaning or anything. West just really liked the aesthetic of it.

West herself wasn't even quite sure she had done it. A total 180 flip from her prior attitude of party-girl, to now. An actually stable mother that paid taxes and worked two jobs. Not like she deserved like...an award or anything. She definitely didn't need validation from an outside party - all she needed was just to get through the week still in one piece.

She thought she did a pretty bang up job anyways, but her work wasn't done until Ianthe was grown and out of the house. But West was adamant to enjoy every step of the way.

There was a certain....peaceful feeling, as cheesy as that sounds, that filled her with her head resting against his shoulder. It just felt right, like it belonged right there. Not like she was going to voice these thoughts out loud. How fucking embarrassing would that be?
"Nah, they've had another cat-centered movie before. The Aristocats, it was a pretty cute movie." West replied, her dark brown eyes focused on the movie as it played on. The Aristocats was a pretty cute movie, definitely not her favorite, but she'd seen it a few times already since her childhood. Maybe she'd have to give it another watch with Ianthe some other time, just to see if her opinion on it had changed. "In that one, I think the humans were the bad guys? One of them was, at least."

A slight smile tugged at the corner of her lips as she listened to Edward's quiet, muttered commentary on the movie. He really was getting into this, wasn't he?
"Yep - not too bad though, right?" West directed the second part of her reply towards Ianthe, who looked back and up at her mother with a toothy grin. Luckily, it didn't bother her too much, but it had frightened her only a little when she had first seen it. With a soft giggle, she crawled over to her mother, before sitting on her knees and burying her face in her lap.

Gently rubbing her head, West laughed gently, before it promptly died as Ed spoke. Are-....are-....what the fuck man? Her eyes wideneed, as she looked over at him with a very surprised look.
Making sure that Ianthe wasn't looking with her face still buried in her lap, West gently bapped him on the shoulder once more with a soft grunt and various hand motions.

"Getting some as in-....as in getting some food!" This slight commotion having caught Ianthe's attention, the little girl looked up with her curly hair slightly wild and a question within her wide eyes. Interjecting before she had a chance to ask, West spoke with slightly gritted teeth and a pointed look at Edward.

Meanwhile, the movie continued to play on.

OMGGGG

Ah-hah~ A victory. Ed couldn’t help but feel pleased at seeing that reddish tinge of her cheeks – even if he was making an even bigger ass of himself, he was just loving that faintly pinkish maidenly blush she had going now. God, he was such a dick. But a lovable dick! He was the kind of guy that people would whap on the back of the head for acting stupid but then he’d turn around and actually do something sweet or helpful at the same time. There was a name for it – the “lovable rogue” type. He fit that type to a T- except….usually “hot veterinarian” and “lovable rogue” didn’t go together. Because intelligence apparently didn’t fit that type too well.

Well whatever, he was all about kicking stereotypes or something.

She seemed to be pretty relaxed up against his shoulder though, which was pretty sweet. Both in the charming “aww” sweet way and the “fuck yeah she’s cool with cozying up” kinda way. Not like dirty cozying, he wasn’t a damn dog-

….Erm.

….He did have some decency, but no it was just nice that she seemed at ease. He did quirk a brow at the mentioning of the cat-movie though. Aristocats? What a freaking awful pun. But….also it sounded kinda cute? Like she said. Aristocats….he was picturing….cats with fancy fur updos, long lashes, fancy…..neck things…..the long wavy things that were like handkerchiefs that went around your neck and looked all frilly…and tuxedos and dresses. High society classy cats. Yeah, it sounded pretty dumb but cute at the same time. He gave a hum. ”I mean, let’s be honest, humans are the bad guys. Even in real life.”

Ow. Morbid, but also not false.

He gave her a sidelong glance, fully aware that she was smirking at him as he….all right, all right, as he got invested in the movie. Was it talking dogs? Yes. Did he believe in it? Not in the slightest. But was it a good movie?

Surprisingly….yeah, it was pretty alright. The villain’s motives didn’t seem all that complex, but he was more interested in it for the…character interactions? That street dog, Tramp, he was a cool guy. And Lady was just a sweetheart. They had some pretty sweet, fifties-style romantic chemistry thing going that…..well he didn’t want to superimpose anything here but…well…

God, this wasn’t a date. The hell was he doing?

”No, no it’s actually pretty okay.” he said finally. Alright, she won that much.

And he’d also just now wound himself back in the proverbial doghouse. …God, all these dog related metaphors for guys…the hell was with that? He offered a toothy grin, just sort of taking the whack because he entirely deserved that. But oh, he wasn’t done. ”Oh, c’mon now, that’s what I meant. Did you think I was saying something else?”

She was gonna start yanking on his ear at this rate. But he was enjoying it anyway.

When they got to the dinner scene though……

Okay, that entire setup was pretty fucking cute. Talk about a damn gourmet meal for some dogs. He had leaned back, an arm around the back of the sofa in behind West as he grinned a cheeky little grin. ”Oh damn, they’re getting seriously served some good grub! Who’s that dog know to get A+ service like that? Oh my god.” He turned and glanced at her as Lady and Tramp…..met right in the middle on that one string of pasta. There was the faintest wink.

”You hungry? How does spaghetti sound?”

A sweeter life...
I miss the conversation I’m searching for a song tonight I’m changing all of the stations
A soft snort parted from her, as the morbid thought about humans always being the bad guy, even in real life, met her. She shifted her head ever so slightly upon his shoulder, just readjusting it a bit to get more comfortable.
"Jeez, that's a bit too dark considering it's a Disney movie." West teased gently, moving to playfully prod him in the side with her index and middle finger. "Try not to get too existential with kid's movies, even though that's oddly endearing."

A victorious smile did appear upon her lips as Ed replied to her next inquiry. He actually liked the movie! That's definitely score one for West in the movie category, and she really was proud of the fact. It really was a shot in the dark if he would have liked the movie or not, and she's rather relieved that he did so far. It makes this whole thing even more enjoyable.
"Well, I'm glad." The dark haired woman tilted her chin up slightly, ruffling Ianthe's curly locks as the little girl giggled with a bubbly nature. Leaning down to press a quick little kiss to the top of her head, the sweet kid was quick to crawl back to her spot upon the floor, to cuddle her bear and watch the movie once more.

There he was again, with those fucking inappropriate remarks and smiling that shit-eating grin of his. God, he was such an adorable bastard.
She wanted to simultaneously bap him over the head while attacking his lips with her ow-....okay, what the fuck. Brain, you stop that right now.

"No, I didn't think you were going to say anything different." West spoke with gritted teeth, clearly not angry enough to warrant another light smack. She'd let that one slide, but she sent him a look of warning as the four year old didn't question it out loud. Thank god.

West couldn't help the snort that escaped her as Ed went off on his cheeky little commentary again. Sweet Jiminy Christmas, he had something to say about every scene, didn't he? Even so, she couldn't help but find it endearing as she sat up a bit, very much aware of the arm behind her on the back of the couch.
There was a moment, her gaze sliding from the screen as Lady and Tramp met in the middle of the cute little kiss, just as her eyes met Edward's, and he-...winked.

A faint blush colored her cheeks once more, and she fought to tear her eyes away from his lips as they dropped to look towards them. No, look towards the screen, fight the urges-...FIGHT THE URGES, YOU'RE STRONGER THAN THIS-

"Oh yeah, spaghetti just sounds lovely right now." West quipped back, her voice more playfully sarcastic and teasing than anything else.
The blush was still fairly noticeable upon her cheeks, but her dark brown eyes were determined to stay glued to the television screen. "Let's just go bark at the back door of some Italian restaurant, maybe they can hook us up with some."

Casting a side glance at Edward, her lowered and nearly whispered voice was brimming with sarcasm and a mild flirtiness as she spoke once more.
"Or maybe we don't even need the spaghetti, hm?"

Well he admitted it

Too existential eh? Ed chuckled, turning his head to give her the best low key pout. ”Making fun of me for analysing a movie? That’s so mean.” He couldn’t keep a straight face, though. Which was to be expected, since they were talking about existential discussions….watching a movie about cartoon dogs for God’s sake. Still, he definitely liked the head on the shoulder thing, and the poking thing. The whole….playful physical contact thing, actually.

”Deer.” he muttered, quirking a brow. ”Isn’t that a whole different movie?”

Normally he wasn’t one for puns, but that was a pretty good one, he thought.

He watched Ianthe scuttle back down to the floor, and had to resist the urge to sort of…..spread out a little more on the couch, and occupy a good two thirds of it all to himself. That was a home habit, not a “babysitting the kid with a...friend” habit. Especially not a friend. But then…

Honestly they weren’t fooling anyone. This was a goddamn date. And he was done pretending it wasn’t, because screw that repression shit.

So if it was a date, then all his lewd comments were considered playful banter. Honestly he was teasing and inciting her, and he was almost getting her to bite back. It was glorious. She looked ready to snap, but in a cute way. Although he did wanna keep it under wraps...just in case she - or he - decided to get frisky and...uh...well there was a little one around. So. None of that.

But a little wink in the middle of a romantic puppy love smooch? That was okay. And booooy did that get a reaction! She was a blushing mess all of a sudden, which was….absolutely adorable, because out of all the things he’d said or done that was definitely the tamest? Well, he was starting to learn what her weaknesses were.

Cute.

”Bark at them, eh? Full on doggy style?”

...Oh. Shit, that may have sounded bad. He shook his head. ”...I meant the barking. Like, instead of talking. Just….yeah.” Uh…..as if she was going to believe that, even if it was the truth...though then again the awkward lilt in his voice might give it away that he was, in fact, sheepish just then. Because that was a blunder if he’d ever heard on---

Whoa.

Whoa.

The leaning in was nice, but the whisper in his ear was hot. And she was implying….

Mmmmmmmhm~

Edward’s hand, resting behind her on the couch, moved down to gently brush at her shoulder just a little as he smiled, his own voice low and soft. ”I like the way you think, dame.”

I'M DETECTING HIGH LEVELS OF PARENTAL FLIRTING BEEP BEEP BEEP
A sweeter life...
I miss the conversation I’m searching for a song tonight I’m changing all of the stations
By this point, West was definitely considering taking a washcloth and scrubbing the damn red as all hell blush right off of her face. This wasn't like her, to be all blushing and abashed damsel in front of some dude. It just wasn't her style, no way in hell it was. But then again, Edward wasn't just some guy. She knew him, hell, she would even consider him a close friend of hers.
And there he was, pushing all of her buttons (hardly irritating, it was the right kind of buttons to push, after all). God, better cover up all of this mushiness with sarcasm.

A snort parted from her, a hand flying up to cover her mouth as she turned her head away for a millisecond. Doggy style? Oh god, he had to kidding now.
Nope, she could even hear the way he rambled, a slight awkward stammer hinted within his voice. Even that made her heart flutter for just a-...oh, no, no, no stop that right now-...

"Sure, sure." West raised a hand, gently patting him once upon the chest with a reassuringly sarcastic gesture. It was safe for right now, of course, Ianthe's attention was practically glued to the television. "That was exactly what you meant."

There she was back to it again, the idle flirtation slipping into her voice. It hadn't been like this in years. Only before Ianthe had been born that she'd been like this. The drawl to her voice, the slight tilt of her head. A soft smile tugged at West's lips as the gentle brush of his hand was felt against her shoulder.
The young woman's hand drew up as he replied in turn, nearly a whisper of his own. West's fingers found his chin, gently gripping it to turn and draw his face closer to hers. She did move closer as well, an idle lean, a smirk upon her lips as she spoke.

"Do you now?" A little quirk of her brow, a certain spark of an excited feeling lighting up in her expressive eyes. The sarcasm and teasing nature was far past gone now, all of her attention focused upon Edward before her. "How bold of you to say so, hm?"

"Mommmmmy?"

With a start, West pulled away from him as quick as a flash. A warm smile fixating itself upon her face, she turned her attention immediately to the child now standing in the middle of the room, one of her hands holding the arm of her bear as it hung close to the floor.
A yawn drew itself from the mouth of the young girl, her wrist moving across her eyes sleepily. The movie upon the screen was swiftly drawing to a close, only a few minutes left in the actual animation. Where had the time gone?

"Rutherford is really sleepy." Ianthe murmured, beginning to totter forward before she flopped dramatically onto West's lap unceremoniously. "It's past his bed time." A gentle, audibly relieved laugh left West as she pet over her daughter's wild light brown curls, before gathering her up in her arms.
"Well, I suppose we should be getting him to bed now, should we?" West replied gently, raising up with a soft grunt of effort with her daughter still in her arms. A quick glance at the clock read 9:30. Jeez, time really had passed that quickly. Her gaze shifted back to Edward, a little apologetic smile tugging at her lips. "If you'll give me a moment, I'll be back after I put her down for bed, okay?"

Omg cockblocked by the bab

He knew he should be good, as in, stop pestering the poor woman and her child and just watch the movie, but….god, it was so easy. And that actually came as a surprise; West was blushing red like a damn fire truck, and it hardly took any real effort. He’d thought she was more grounded, more level headed, but maybe she had an innocent streak about her? Or maybe she was just really hot for him. Digging the chiseled look and the beard and long hair or something. Yeah. He was hot stuff.

He knew she completely saw through him on that last one, but at least she wasn’t completely reaming him for it, just being sarcastic about it. He was actually a little worried she might straight up try to evict him….which would have honestly sucked. But damn, she was making it so easy to tease! It wasn’t completely his fault that he kept poking. But it mostly was.

But that tone of her voice….the smile….the slight tilt….

Oh. That was good.

He was surprised when she touched his chin - surprised, and immobilized. He felt like putty, but it was willingly so; he allowed himself to relax into her capable hands. He felt his face being turned - yes, yes, close, yes, just a little further. God, he was so close. But he wanted her to be the one to complete the gesture - he always loved a woman who could take control in this situation, a real firecracker. His own lips turned to a smirk, parting very slightly as though to answer, and perhaps to ki--

---his mouth shut at the small girl’s voice. Shit. Did she see? Did she-

Next time, babysitter for the kid.

He let himself relax into just the...Friend Zone...again. He watched West and her daughter - Rutherford….was that a stuffy of hers? A favourite animal maybe. It sounded like that at least. He chuckled, relaxing as he gave a soft wave of his hand. ”You take your angel and get her and dear Rutherford to bed. Nighty night, Ianthe! Nighty-night Rutherford!”

West is having a crisis
A sweeter life...
I miss the conversation I’m searching for a song tonight I’m changing all of the stations
She was rusty. Completely, absolutely rusty in the whole 'flirting game'. It's not like she couldn't be coy, or bat her eyelashes. It was the whole composed part that was throwing her for a loop. That, and that fact that, oh dear lord, did West realize in this moment she was very attracted to Edward. And that wasn't good at all.
Edward was a good friend, a reliable friend at that. She couldn't just throw herself at the next dude that showed her even the tiniest bit of affection. She had bigger priorities than that! Plus, the young woman wasn't looking for just some one-night-stand fling that would only shove an awkward wedge in their relationship afterward.

Nah, she needed something solid. Heaven knows, she definitely wasn't a mind reader. But gazing into his warm...beautiful...desire-filled brown eyes -- all West saw was lust there. Unless she should look again...

Wait, no! Do not gaze deeply into his eyes. That would be a trap and she already knew she was horrible at getting herself out of those kinds of things.

Maybe this should just be some....unspoken thing. A quiet agreement between a pair of platonically connected friends! It should have sounded appealing, the most practical route to follow if she wanted to maintain some sort of dignity but...
Gathering up Ianthe in her arms, she smiled at the man as the little girl wrapped her arms loosely on top of her shoulders and around her neck. Ianthe held the stuffed animal in one hand, while she smiled a toothy grin at Edward.

"Good night, Edward!" Ianthe chimed, before West nodded with satisfaction. It was a good thing she wasn't fighting bedtime tonight, that would have been a whole other situation in itself. Soon, West had whisked the little girl away and Edward was left alone in the living room for the meantime.
Getting the kid to bed was easy enough. She had her brush her teeth and wash her face. Changed into her favorite pajama's and soon she was tucked in up to her chin. Flicking the light off after a goodnight kiss and a final 'I love you' for the night, the young mother had closed the door behind her after making sure the nightlight was still very much working.

Returning after a few minutes, a tired yet content sigh parted from the young woman as she stood in the entryway to the living room.

"The little squirt's off to bed and-.....uh," Quietly debating her next choice of words in her head, she simply decided on a soft smile, her hands tucked into the front pockets of her pants. "Thanks for coming tonight, sorry we were-...interrupted." A sheepish grin tugged at her lips, her face mildly flushed but she looked more amused than anything. Interrupted.
