Skoll chuckles and puts the rabbit aside. Despite his immense hunger, it was disagreeing with him. Sometimes, if he went too long without food and ate too much at once to fill himself, he'd be sick minutes later. He could not imagine heaving with the damage he had to the muscles he'd use for that.
He lowers himself down to the ground again, resting his head on one arm. He went to work, cleaning whatever was left off his hand.
"You have a lot of potential for someone I'd normal kill," Skoll responded easily. "You'd be surprised to know that I'm not just a wild beast."

Margaretha frowned, not entirely sure how to take his words. It sounded like he was complimenting her, but she was not entirely sure she wanted to be thanked for the topic they had been speaking about. After all, it did not escape her that murder was something that was wrong and the fact that it had come to her as the first answer to his question was probably not good.

"Thank you...I think," she said, brow furrowed. She eyed him oddly at his next words. "I did not say you are. You are just a strange wolf-man." A wolf-man who ate children but that seemed a bit rude to point out. Besides, it would probably be best not to nitpick at what she perceived as his flaws. She did not want him to change his mind about eating her, after all.

Matricide did not seem bad idea, considering the circumstances. At least, not to Skoll. That was a biased opinion, however, because of his disposition. To be fair, he didn't really kill for fun. He killed just to feed. He'd eat a child, if that was what was presented to him, but he'd just as easily eat an adult, or a deer. He was not picky when it came to his meals.

"You do not have to say it for me to know," Skoll said with a sigh. "I can read it on your face, child. But, you have fed me, tried you best to heal me, and gave me shelter. I have no intentions of eating you at this point. You have done me a service and I don't take that too lightly." He was thanking her as well, in his own way. It was not an easy task to be so blunt when it came to more... pleasant conversation.

Margaretha peered at Skoll, as if she was trying to figure out the creature before him. Despite his words, she did find herself somewhat dubious. After all, everyone spoke of monsters as if they were beings that could not be reasoned with. They just attacked, sometimes for reason and sometimes for no reason at all. The idea that it was a bit difficult to understand. Despite the fact that her innocence was beginning to fade, Margaretha still was nine and there were things that she just could not understand.

The wolf-man, she decided simply, was merely strange.

"If you say so." She found it difficult to believe that he was being honest. After all, he had claimed that he would eat her if he was feeling better. She could not entirely tell if he was better, but she doubted it. He might not eat her now, but perhaps he might try later. "You should sleep; it is night."

Skoll lays down, back on the ground. She was right. He'd hardly been awake for very long at all and he already felt worn. His stomach churned with hunger, and nausea from having eaten, all at once. He'd prefer to sleep this feeling off.
"Yes. You should as well," he grumbled, placing his hands upon his chest. He stares into the dark ceiling, the fire hardly illuminating the rafters of the decrepit hut. He sighed and closed his eyes. "Deer horn velvet," he said.

Margaretha paid little attention to what Skoll said. Instead, she went about cleaning things up. Once she was done, she let out the fire and laid down to sleep. It was a bit more difficult due to how more uncomfortable she was. Her kindness had come at a few costs, though so far they had appeared to be relatively harmless. She only wondered if that might change. Musing on the thought, she closed her eyes and fell asleep.

In the early hours of the morning, Skoll came in with a deer slung over his shoulders. His side was burning hot with pain and he was certain he had exacerbating his wounds enough for them to reopen. With a grunt, the deer was tossed onto the floor and Skoll landed roughly beside it, near it's head. There seemed to be no care in being quiet at this point. He had be quiet this morning, when leaving the shack, as he didn't want want to wake her. It wasn't that he cared for her sleep, he just didn't want to be stopped. He huffed out great puffs of air and began to handle the antlers.

The night before, it looked like Skoll had been on the way to a full recovery. If he had not moved, and allowed for the girl to take care of him, that's exactly what would have happened. He was stubborn, though. The scabbing on the wound had broken apart and was leaking blood, and the area was covered in deep purple and grey bruises. His skin was pale, the veins beneath visible with it's translucency. He'd hardly slept because of the pain, and had spent most of the night watching the dying fire, leaving his eyes dark with exhaustion and bloodshot. He'd removed the furs from his shoulders and was left in just pants and boots, his hair and beard absolutely disheveled.

Margaretha found her dreams consumed by nightmares. Images of her mother, father, and the forest swam through her dreams in a caricature of real life, taunting her. It was nothing she had not though about before in the last year. She had questioned time and again whether her mother or father had ever loved her. The answers should have seemed obvious, but it did not come easily to a nine year old who held a relatively innocent view of the world despite the taint that it possessed. Her mother had always paid attention to her and her father had always been busy. These seemed like believable truths.

Her dreams easily gave away her doubts, especially in the face of a stranger who was not clouded by the biases within her life.

She slept longer than normal. Eventually though, she found herself awakening. Blinking the sleep from her eyes, she turned her gaze to where the man had been. A frown crossed her face at his absence, deepening when she discovered when he was. "You re-opened your wounds," she said, recognizing this fact from how worse his appearance seemed to be from the night before. Exactly why could be guessed from the animal- a deer she presumed- before them. Clearly, he had decided not to rest like he should. "Are you stupid?" The statement went against every teaching she had been taught, but truly only an idiot of an adult would not have rested when they were so terribly wounded. Besides, it was not like she had anyone here to scold here except this man and he hardly seemed like the scolding type. More like the killing type and if he was going to kill her because he had done something stupid then so be it.

"Likely," he grunted.

A bead of sweat trailed down his forehead before his wiped it away with the back of his hand. Skoll swallowed hard, his mouth and throat parched from dehydration. "It might be for the best, though," he said, peeling away some velvet from the antlers and placing it down into a pile on the floor. "Otherwise, I would need to tear them open with my hands and that didn't seem like a fun task," he spoke while distracted, trying to catch his fingernail on a stubborn part of the antler. Finally, he got it, and tore the velvet away.

"This good for healing," he told the girl, holding up the velvet. His eyes finally went to her, looking less sharp and more weary.

Margaretha grimaced at what Skoll said. She found what he said to be correct to a degree. After all, there was no point in acting in doing something that might end up causing more of a hassle. At the same time, she was not entirely sure about him having hunt down a deer to begin with. Last night, he had appeared worst for wear but relatively alive. Now, he appeared to be half dead. It seemed to be relatively stupid to search for something if the search itself might end up killing you.

She gave him a dubious look. "The meat or the hunt?" she asked skeptically. She wasn't entirely sure what he was holding up, but she found herself unsure about what he was saying. After all, he seemed to have ruined any work she had done. How was this good for healing?

"Neither," Skoll snapped irritably. This is why he disliked children so much, you had to explain everything you were doing and saying to them for them to understand. The only good aspect of that was that they were easily manipulated.

He picked up one of the soft patches of skin he'd torn from the antler. "This. Deer antler velvet," he answered, shaking the piece of skin around in the least appetizing way. "It has healing properties if you put it on a wound."

Margaretha withheld a sigh. It was quite clear that she had said something that was not quite wrong, but that had clearly irritated. She realized there was a difference. Unfortunately, that difference was one which could get her killed. Skoll appeared to be somewhat like some of the individuals back home in that his opinion counted as what was right. If you did not give into it that meant something bad. Or, she was pretty sure that was what happened. It was a bit hard to tell considering that he had said he had claimed that he would have eaten her another day but gave a reason later why he would not eat her. Maybe there was no logic to the person before her.

She frowned slightly, still somewhat dubious. "And that will help enough to make you not look like you are about to die?" Healing was good and she could agree with that. However, the effort for something that just worsened him but did not give better results was...not something she could agree with. In fact, it was kind of stupid. She was hoping that Skoll was not a stupid man. Stupid people were difficult to deal with. She imagined a people-eating one would be worse to deal with.
